Heartbroke by Ricky Scaggs, best two-step song?

If it isn't, it has to be near the top.

It's a real good tune. But for my money, the best two-step ever is Bob Wills' Rose of San Antone. You can play it fast or slower to suit the crowd, and if they won't dance to it, they're paralyzed.

There must be a couple hundred Cajun two-steps that are better than that song. And the Bob Wills song is called "San Antonio Rose".

If you want to get real picky about it, "The San Antonio Rose" is the instrumental version of the song and "The New San Antonio Rose" is the later version with words.

Also I agree there are hundreds of great Cajun two step songs, and I don't even dance. I will admit that when Ricky would play "Heartbroke" live, it made for a pretty good polka.

Either way it's a great song! Ricky had a great band back then and I'm glad I got to see them. The great high harmony singing George Grantham on drums is as good as it gets! And Ray Flacke, well, what can you say?

Of course you're right about "San Antonio Rose" vs. "New San Antonio Rose", but I have been unable to find any references with "the" in the title of either. Do you have any references that show the "the"?

I'm pretty sure that's Ray Flacke in the Ricky Scaggs vid. I've got his Star Licks DVD. One hell of a tele picker IMO.

That was a typo on my part. I didn't mean to put the "the" in the " ", but I was typing that message on my cell phone. It's a whole lot easier typing on a laptop instead of using thumbs on a 2 1/2 inch touch screen phone.

Just get this CD, it's as good a place as any to start with:

http://www.amazon.com/Balfa-Brothers...8438404&sr=8-1

Or if you're looking to download individual songs, my picks for the 5 best two-steps on that CD are:

'Tit Galop Pour Mamou
Two-Step de L'Anse a Paille
Les Flammes d'Enfer
Lacassine Special
Parlez-Nous a Boire.

Good luck - Cajun music can really get in your blood! For what it's worth, my avatar is me playing a Cajun button accordion - artwork by my father-in-law.
