Guitar Strap ADD (rant)

I have various types of straps and I still can't find one that's comfy in all ways.

The most comfy one weight wise, is the 2.5 inch thick Levy's strap...

http://accessories.musiciansfriend.c...rap?sku=360553

but I have small shoulders and it kind of digs into my neck when sitting, and looks overpowering in general. I don't care about the look, as I just play for my own hobby, but it's a pet peeve.

I also have 2 nylon straps, one is the vintage tweed strap which I loved looks wise, but it kind of sucks...

http://accessories.musiciansfriend.c...rap?sku=361207

The buckle slips a lot and I keep having to fix the length. And it doesn't really feel comfy or take the weight off my shoulders that well.

Then recently I bought the Fender vintage leather strap...

http://accessories.musiciansfriend.c...rap?sku=361206

which I also love looks wise, but to me it's the most uncomfortable strap out of all the others!!

So I'm back to trying the most comfy one again, the Levy's. And of course, I can't fit the schaller strap locks on there, but that's a whole nuther rant.

Does anyone else go through this type of thing, or am I just super picky and never content? I realize I should focus more on the practice/playing than the strap, but I find it all part of the process!!!

If you just play as a Hobby (At Home I assume?)...why are you even concerned about Straps and Strap-Loks ??

I use a big fat Levys strap. I put schaller strap locks on it, and it was a small task, but I got 'em in there.

I'm the type of guy who'll get used to any strap; and the only reason I used my Levys strap is because I liked the look of it -but it's really my banjo strap.

Because I like to alternate between sitting and standing, for various reasons. Sometimes I feel I play better standing, then when I get tired, I sit. And even with sitting, the strap helps the guitar not slide so much.

As far as the strap locks, surprisingly enough, I have had problems with the strap popping off on one end while standing. I don't understand why, I don't do any sort of crazy moves when playing, but the Tele crashed to the ground more than once, so that was enough for me to want to try the locks.

I use the comfort strap.
They aren't that much to look at, but they are much better for my back.

I've found these to be just fine for me, but since you don't like the tweed strap they might not do it for you.

I love the Levy's suede straps (MS-1), I also use Schaller strap locks. I didn't have too much trouble with them, but you either need thread locker, or keep tightening them as they loosen up.

I have that one, and wasn't overall impressed. I bought a couple Levy's in that style that are 1000% better.

Stiff leather can cut into your shoulder.

Nylon always cuts into your shoulder.

Suede is best. Thick soft suede molds to your shoulders are absorbs the weight of a heavy guitar.

Levy's makes some great thick soft suede straps....

$20-$30. All your trouble will go away. The suede also grips your shoulder and keeps the a head stock heavy guitar like an SG from tilting toward the neck side.
