Ida washing out the Southeast

Man, this has been the biggest rainmaker in many years around here. we've gotten almost 5 inches in less than 48 hours, and it's supposed to continue through tomorrow.

lots of flooding — hope all you guys in low-lying areas are hanging in there.

We didn't get it too bad in Atlanta. It was more slow and steady rain. I heard you guys are getting pounded up there, though. Hang in there and try to stay dry. Hey, if you can't go out, that's a perfect excuse to spend some quality time with the tele.

I'm about 10 miles from woodman, and it has been steadily raining hard and the wind has been howling. We need the rain, our pond is way down from it should be this time of year. The wind thrown in makes for some real problems. Lots of big trees and power lines coming down in traffic.

The Linville is at 3.62; that is too high to run. 2.70 feet is maximum. It has been over 2.70 now 3 different times in the last 20 days. Amazing for this time of year. I lost track of the extent to which the ground is already soaked in places. With leaves shut down or fallen, and little solar evaporation, the water that cannot soak into aquifers has to go somewhere, and that is into creeks and then rivers

Meanwhile Duke Power is dumping out of Lake Aquone into the Nantahala Cascades (West of Asheville) anyways. All kinds of rivers are going off. The Watauga, Doe and Nolichucky (West side towards Irwin and Elizabethton) are too high to run but Wilson's Creek (Wilkesboro side) is still within limits.
Raven's Fork, The Little in the Park. Ach. The boaters that are up there will spend half their time helping people in trouble, not kayaking.

Hang in there you guys. I'd send some dry your way, but we can't come up with much of that around here, either. Keep them amps off the basement floor!

Every guage I monitor in N. Carolina has peaked and some are headed safely down.

Now, there are some rivers in the Roanoke, VA general area that are headed up fast. I don't know where that will take us.

Remarkably, you can expect the New River, as it works its way across from NC and through VA, to be get plenty high later on in West Virginia where it walls up a good bit near Thurmond and Fayetteville.

I'm halfway between Raleigh & Wilmington. The GF is supposed to drive way down below Wilmington today for a Doctor's appt. I really wish she were not doing that today...

It's wet & windy in the Triangle area. Commuting home tonight is going to be fun, with all the fair weather drivers around here.

Well, they've canceled the release from the Aquone (Nantahala Lake) so as not to compete with the other runoff. Some of these guages actually went a lot higher on September 26. Hope everyone is doing all right.

Getting hammered big time here on the coast in VA. Prevailing winds from the NE are causing tides to run 6 - 8 ft above normal. Most schools were closed this am, and the ones that weren't are closing early in anticipation of this afternoon's high tide.

The good news is, I still have electricity......for now.......

Sposed to keep raining and blowing till tomorrow morning.

Ain't goin nowhere for nuthin.

rain gauge at 5.25 inches total accumulation this morning ... we're still getting the backspin showers from the stalled front that's hanging around the Atlantic coast.

Windy and rainy on Delmarva, I'm actually up in DC on a bus charter. Driving across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge was... interesting!
