The top names have been mentioned, but I'll add Colin Cripps, Paul Dean, heck ... Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Kevin Breit ... this list could be endless ... at my age. The memory ain't what it used to be. Should Frank Marino or Gino Scarpelli be on this list?

Anybody remember The Paupers? They had an interesting take on guitars. I think there were a lot of personel changes in the band but they were gooooood for as long as it lasted.
Colin Linden? Tom Wilson? Blackie and the Rodeo Kings?

Goddo was a great live band. I didn't get into them in the day, but they did some reunion stuff, and my buddy from L&M took me to see them. I was blown away. Greg was playing one of those acoustic/electric basses. Sounded great. A great hard rock trio.

April Wine was pretty fun for a little while, back when AW, Triumph, Max Webster were all 2nd tier Canadian bands. But everyone was compared to Rush at the time. I'm leaving out the folkies and Neil Young. I'm talkin' rock bands. I followed them all and thought at one time every one of them was on the verge of a Rush-like breakout. Never happened though. Rik Emmett is now touring as a solo rock god...here in Houston not long ago. $30 tix! Ouch. Oh yeah, Pat Travers was another of my can't-believe-he-isn't-huge favorites. Marino & Mahogany Rush. Hey, there were a lot of pretty good Canadian bands back then, more than you remember at first. Glad you brought it up.

Rik Emmett. He can play damn near anything, and pretty well. One of the best players ever.

Good one, Tdub. He actually lived across the street from me long time ago. He can play all the genres.

Well, I'd be glad to play like him. Listen to the first couple of albums ... not a virtuoso, but that sparse playing, and chord selection was perfect for his poetry. Not to mention he won a local award as vocalist of the year ... and in his words, "only in Canada."! hehe
Maybe I'm confusing songwriter with player, but I always wanted to play like Leonard (or Paul Simon) ... folk roots at work ... aside from the rockabilly roots I grew up with!

From the metal world Denis "Piggy" D'amour. Trained on violin as a child, he had perfect pitch. A lot of his chords were keyboard chords from Keith Emerson.
He was with the very influential Canadian band Voivod. Soundgarden, Faith No More and Metallica used to open for them. They literally started the Montreal metal scene.
