Finish crack? Need advice...
I picked up a very nice Platinum SG for a low price because of a finish crack. It is a hairline crack in the back of the headstock that runs from the center of the E6 Grover tuner to the center of the B2 tuner. I tried to flex the headstock and there is no movement in the area. The overall tuning stability is excellent.
Reflected light on the face of the headstock forms a straight line. On the back, a line of light is offset slightly across the crack, indicating to me that it is not flat. Also, the factory finish in the area is so thick that I can barely make out the serial number. What am I dealing with here and what could have caused it? What could be done to repair it? Thanks for your replies, Gary |
