Hurricane Ida -Here's where it gets good

I'm offshore in the Gulf of Mexico, I have 90 guys I'm responsible for spread out on 9 platforms over 5000 square miles of ocean. I have one helicopter that moves 4 men at a time and can only fly 8 hours a day. Just trying to get all my people out of harms way.....

Actually not as bad as all that. In the first place this little hurricane looks to be a fizzle (but we can't count on that, so we move out of the way). Second, after I move the 10-12 non-essential guys in I can get a couple of 12 place aircraft in the morning to move the rest. This is likely just a real good test of our procedures.

I hope so.

But I'm thinking it is a sort of "spare" hurricane and any testing done now will be long forgotten by June of next year. Like a Fire Drill at school 5 days before Summer Recess.

Please be super careful.

Well Boris, at least I'm 75' ABOVE sea level, parts of your city are probably in more danger than I. You too should be careful and alert.

S2O,

Are you offshore of Texas? Looks like this 'cane is coming a lot closer to my neck of the woods (Florida). The models all seem to agree that it's going to be around the Redneck Riviera on Tuesday...

A friend of mine is driving to Pensacola for a gig this afternoon-I don't think he's ever seen anything like this! Even funnier, he plays a Category 5 amplifier...

I'm sitting about 75 miles south of Lafayette La., and my area of responsibility runs west from here so not really expecting to have any problems. Just playing safe.

And you didn't believe it when your teacher told you that you'd use math in the real world. Now, about those trains traveling in opposite directions at different speeds...

Yeah, you guys are on the "safe" side of circulation by a good bit; with guidance taking the storm to Landfall in Baldwin County, AL the New Orleans area will need to make some preparations. We're on the "safe" side probably but one never knows.

The tanks are full; I left the shutters on at the office, and I've picked up everything I can outside. I don't know why I left the shutters up but now I am glad I did. Everybody in the Panhandle, you need to take some care.

I feel like a boxer who should've knelt down 2 rounds ago. "No Mas". No way I am psyched for a storm right now.

Good luck from waay up in Bossier City, La.

Howdy,

Boy, am I glad that I don't live in Beaumont anymore! Shreveport/Bossier City, La. may be boring, but we're safe from Hurricanes-so far.

Guidance seems to be turning it closer to Pensacola.

Supposed to be "extra-tropical" at some point, meaning less fierce but still wet.

In which case I wish it would move fast!

I've still got 7000' of ceiling, light rain, 10 miles visibility, and 25kt winds. Just a big rainstorm over here. Looks to miss Boris by a goodly margin, NO downgraded to Tropical Storm Warning. Alabama and Florida still need to keep their heads down for a while yet.
Everybody stay safe and alert.
