CMA awards Wednesday...shall we start the carnage now?

http://abc.go.com/shows/country-musi...ic_awards_2009

Questions that NEED to be addressed:

Will the Teles out-number the Pauls?
Will Taylor and Miley use autotune?
How many wardrobe changes for host Carrie Underwood?
Will Kayne West interrupt anyone's speech?
Should the "that ain't country" folks call their senator?
Will Rascal Flatts get rascally?

Anything else?

Not even a chance of him being nominated for CMA's, BUT the GRAMMYS added an "Americana" category this year. I would be willing to bet that Buddy ends up with one of those awards before getting anything at the CMA's.

How about with this years CMAs we make a concerted effort to recognize that there's more great country music out there available than ever before...even back in the golden age of country (whenever that was).

Nashville might be producing a lot of lame acts, but it always has (although it's also produced a great deal of good acts). The good news is that there's a lot of great acts out there for you to go and see, and great albums for you to buy. People like Dale Watson, Jason Boland, Aaron Watson...the list goes on and on. They could use us going to their shows and going onto itunes and buying their albums (allowing them to earn a living) a lot more than they could use a stupid, meaningless CMT award.

Sorry for the soapbox speech, I'll jump off now.

I would like to see Taylor Swift get Entertainer of the Year just to watch Nashville collapse.
How much noise can 50,000 suitcases snapping at the same time make?

Oh...I did watch her on SNL tonight...and though she can still barely hold pitch, she is a very, very good actress - - she did a really good job tonite in the personality department.

I think the Entertainer of the Year will finally go to Paisley because the guy is beloved by the town. He is really stepping in to Vince Gill and Marty Stewart's shoes.

I've always considered entertainment award shows more about marketing than actually giving awards. It's free airtime (although I sometimes wonder if artists shove money under the table to perform on the shows). Promotion is huge on the CMAs. Maybe that's why it's so polarizing.

Like everything in the music biz, awards shows are about money, money and money. The people with the most power and cash behind them get the performance spots and the awards. My guess would be that Nashville industry insiders know who the winner of each award will be.

My thinking is simple; IF.... it get's "bad enough" all of the refugee City Slickers will leave and Country Music can return to Nashville.
Count me in as another one who's been waiting around for some decent manure.
None of these "stars" know Diddley about anything remotely Country related.
I doubt if any of them know when it's going to rain.
Have any of them farmed, or mined, or driven a truck?
Or ever gotten filthy workin' on something?

The "Real Ones" did/do all that stuff.
I remember a famous quote that Chet made when Merle Travis passed away - he said; "I'd still be lookin' at a mule's behind if it wasn't for Merle Travis."

Real Country Artists have skills whereas these peacocks all have pretty faces and behinds and Producers that'd make a screachin' fisher cat sound like Pavarotti or Patsy Cline.

Like was previously said - they're all good actresses and actors.
Maybe they'll give Hollywood or Broadway a try.

And leave Country Music to The People who know Blue Seal's phone number like they know their own, that can skin and prepare a fish and bake a pie that'd bring tears to a hungry man's eyes just smellin' it from outside the kitchen door.

Hell No - I've got better things to do than sit down and waste time watching it - if something ACTUALLY GREAT HAPPENS it'll show up on The You Tube.
That is all.

I watched her on SNL as well, and I concur with your assesment of Ms. Swift....she was pitchy, but she's always been that way. But I was very impressed with her acting and her presence onstage, she's really become more assured in the last year or so.

Her singing is not her strong suit, but if she can keep writing those tunes that 16 year old girls can't seem to get enough of, she's gonna be a force to be reckoned with for a very long time.....and is never going to have to think about getting a real job.

They need to change the name to: Country Music and Lite Rock Association Awards.

I like Brad and Carrie so I'll give in and watch this thing.

The wife likes Taylor. Ms. Swift's segment will present me with a good opportunity to visit the Beer Rental Return Counter.

Taylor Swift has sold more records in 2009 than anyone in country or pop and since she is in both categories and record sales is what drives alot of these shows watch her win everything she is nominated for.

If people didnt know who Taykor Swift was they sure do now after that Kanye dealo.

+1...Swiftys pipes are always a bit pitchy, though I must say she has improved over the last year. What she does bring to the table is " The Whole Package", singing, writing, producing ...and she is anal about it..hell and she can act too! She'll be around for a long time as versatile as she is.

Yes...I am a Taylor Swift convert after SNL, but not to her voice or music. She opened the door to a whole new career last night. She is already "big" but she is gonna be huge...
I do find it disappointing that she is in considered to be in the Country Music genre because there is not a trace of that in her stuff. I guess when her and her mom packed up to become famous they only had enough gas money to drive as far as Nashville.

Again, for purists, Paisley keeps the torch burning because he has a foot in the old camp as well as the new. If it were not for Paisley we would only have Kenny Buffet Chesney, Kieth rocker Urban, Rascall ear-piecing, off key,whiny-ass Flatts, Pop angst-Princess Taylor, and Martina crystal-shattering McBride.
I am tuning in to see Paisley slave over a Tele.

Country music (here anyway) is just a way to get famous. Because you can't get onto Big Brother any more, and all the "reality" shows feature celebrities...

I hear what you're saying, Mark. I just don't think record sales has anything to do with the music, and everything to do with marketing.

As a "colonial", my opinion of country music is worth exactly what you paid for it However, here it is...
From what I hear, what comes out of Nashville being labelled as "country" is kinda like taking the output of bands like Zep, Deep Purple, Free etc and labelling it "blues". Sure, the influences and sometimes the forms were there, but there was no way it was blues.
Maybe I'm wrong here, but the stuff I hear from Nashville types connects with a demographic.
Because that's exactly what it was designed to do. It's a product to be marketed. It uses the forms of a familiar and much-loved music, but in the end it's the same pop dreck that in the 80s was drenched in gated reverb and chorus guitars. In the 70s it was dressed in glam makeup and jumpsuits with harmony guitars, and in the 60s it hid behind little round sunglasses, love beads and electric sitars.
Pop music is a shapeshifting parasite that takes something good and real and turns it into sht.
And it's favourite flavour at the moment is country....

I agree 100% its not the music its the face behind it and the marketing.
