Just bought Michael Landau's personal...

... 6-string banjo.

How's that for random? :D

I was looking for one of those those, and his Gold Tone GT-500 was for sale.

It's got a pickup, so I can plug it in and play it live... or record with it.

It's got a maple back and neck:

Heck, it even came with a case:

Should be fun! :)

Congrats. But if you don't mind me asking, that can't be a Remo drum skin top on it otherwise the pickup couldn't be pushed through. Does it have a solid plastic top?

nice

(Guitarist magazine w/Johnny Marr on the cover had an excellent article/interview w/Michael Landau … which mentions an upcoming album with Robben Ford)

The pickup isn't pushed through - it's behind the skin.

Edit: Here's a pic that shows that a bit more clearly...

Nice.
Since it is a 6-string, do you use standard guitar tuning?

For now, yes I intend on using regular tuning, but as I get more comfortable w/ the technique, that may change. I am also planning on removing the lower E string and replacing it with a High E string to have that Nashville tuning sorta thang going on

On a banjo, that would be "Knoxville", wouldn't it?
