Great Movie String

The Five Easy Pieces thread got me thinking about this one.
Who would you consider has put together the most impressive string of movies?
Do you go with Jack, as in the aforementioned thread?
How about Clint Eastwood? Meryl Streep? Tom Hanks? Mel Gibson? Katherine Hepburn?
Who has had the best string of four or five?

Behind the camera, Alfred Hitchcock or John Ford. In front of it, John Wayne.

Ok they aren't in a row, but I gotta say Paul Newman, And I'll list Hud, Cool Hand Luke, Butch and Sundance, The Sting. Thats a pretty good string in ten years.

Steve Martin ... hands down.

From the goofy "Jerk", through "The Man with Two Brains", "Roxanne" and "LA Story", even his latest stuff, great acting, writing, directing, love his movies.

It's hard to pick a good run for Hitchcock, but I like:
1955 The Trouble With Harry
1956 The Man Who Knew Too Much
The Wrong Man
1958 Vertigo
1959 North by Northwest

John Ford:
1950 Rio Grande
1951 This is Korea (Documentary)
1952 The Quiet Man
What Price Glory
1953 The Sun Shines Bright

John Wayne:
1966 El Dorado
1967 The War Wagon
1968 The Green Berets
Hellfighters
1969 True Grit
The Undefeated

Yeah, but he had more clunkers than great ones in that span.

It was just interesting seeing in the other thread the list of Jack Nicholson films in a short span, with only two really non-hits in there.
Like him or not, Leonardo diCaprio had a good string with Gangs of New York, Catch Me if You Can, The Aviator, and The Departed.
De Niro did Mean Streets, Godfather II, Taxi Driver, and then unfortunately, The Last Tycoon and New York, New York. He has had a career of alternating good and bad.
Marlon Brando, though, started off with a pretty good string: Streetcar Named Desire, Viva Zapata, Julius Caesar, The Wild One, and On the Waterfront. Hardly a dud in the bunch.
