NGD! Oh baby, BABY! (non-tele content)

New Guitar Day! Actually, it came last night but I was too busy to open it. I know it isn't a tele, or even Fender, but variety is the spice of life, right? After all, it isn't as if she is replacing my tele's! I'll stop teasing, here are the pics:

Why don't they just write, "I'm valuable, please steal me" on the box. Might as well.

Sandy helped me get the box open.

The moment of truth: was it broken by the ever-caring UPS staff? Nope, all in one piece.

A full frontal shot:

More full frontal:

You are reading that correctly, "pull for coil-tap":

Head shot:

So here is the basic info:
Until now, I've got nothing but teles. Had been thinking for a long time about getting a guitar with P90s or buckers. Had decided I was going to get an SG Classic (have always wanted an SG). Got the 20% off October musiciansfriend coupon and called them up to find out that non-custom Gibson's actually qualified for the discount. Right before the end of the month, when I was going to order, musiciansfriend gets in a special run classic white SG standard with coil-taps. With the 20% off, I couldn't pass it up. It just looks classy. And although I LOVE the heritage cherry, it is nice to have something that is a little different from the rest of the pack.
Anyway, haven't really put it through it's paces but I have plugged her into the Carmen Ghia and she sounds great. I was worried that the buckers would be too hot of a signal (ghia is dirty to begin with) but this is not the case. It sounds great and not too hot. It has more clarity than I expected. ONe thing I don't like is the loss of highs when volume is rolled back (it is more substantial than I've heard on other guitars and is almost as substantial as actually rolling the tone nob). Coil-taps seem surprisingly useful, at least at this point - there isn't too much loss of volume. Of course, she's very light-weight. And the most surprising thing is, (a big concern for any SG buyer) she isn't neck heavy!!!

Gorgeous guitar, my first "proper" electric was a Japanese Maya SG...always loved that shape, really does earn the "axe" moniker.
Congratulations and enjoy!!

Very nice! I didn't know they were building in coil-tapping controls. Have fun!

WOW, I have never like SGs but that one is a beauty. That actually is giving me GAS.

The white looks awesome. The picture showing the case open reminds me of a naked lady jumping out of a cake.

I have been bitten by the 'bucker bug, and I got me a '52 Hot Rod.
