Anyone score at the GC Memorial Day sale?....

......best deal I saw were 2 70s Strats (natural, one w/maple, one w/rosewood) for $199 each, no gig bag. I thought about buying both and throwing on eBay. But there were a couple parents there with their kids and they ended buying them, that's better.

I was hoping to find a Marshall 1960a cab on the cheap, no such luck.

MIM Standard Teles were marked down to $299; a good deal, but not a "steal."

I walked away empty. Anyone else?

Bless you , Eric. I saw two Gibson Melday Makers for $199 each and almost snatched them up to do the same thing. Then I thought about the other people, mostly young teens, and left them there. There were also a 60's and a 70's Strat for $299 each.

I did score 2 sets of GHS "Fatties" strings for bass for $5 each and a new guitar stand for $5. My big score was a Gibson SG Special, in pewter, with ebony fretboard. $599 + tax. It's a blem with a small finish crack. Still, it's cool. My sons like it and won't let me play it. :(

Now I have one of everything...

A Les Paul
An SG
A Tele
A Strat
A 335 (Clone)
A Fender bass
Can I quit buying guitars now?

Gary

I got a shopworn Tacoma papoose for $99, + $20 for gig bag, still a cool summer toy. I also picked up one of the new peterson strobostomps. They also had 18 mos same as cash on all purchases. Among the cooler deals I saw: a LP jr for 699, Melody maker juniors for 199, a 1/2 stack for 450(peavey?). First time I got up early for their sale, it was amusing.

Well . . .

I bought a EA-1 Korg Analog Synth thingy for $59. I was thinking that it had drum rhythms. But no, it was an elaborate synth appegiation machine for Dance, DJ and twisted synth enthusiest. REALLY COOL sounds though. Just wasn't my thang. It was new in the box. I already sold it on eBay for $139.

Got a 2003 Fender Stndard (MIM) Fretless Jazz Bass in the cool 3 tone brown sunburst. This is an awsome guitar. I sort of like it better than my Squire MIM fretted bass. However, I am already obligated to sell two guitar because of a recent Les Paul purchase. Therefore, this bass guitar is already listed on eBay too. It was Brand New @ $199 plus tax. It street sells for $459 on MF. I have it listed on eBay for $289 start bid or $329 BIN. I really would like to keep it, but my wife gave me the "musician's wife - death look" when I brought it in the door. I instantly promised her that it was going up for sale for a profit.

At one point, I had grabbed a MIA '70's RI Strat in Olympic White and blue mojo pickguard. It had SSH(bridge) pups. This thing was only $299! I was holding it and the bass in my hands. I felt pretty stupid and looked rather odd standing there with two guitars in my hands. There was a guy melting with envy and looking at the Strat in my hand (he was behind me in line). I said that I did not really need it (that was before I had decided to eBay my reaps). He held out his had and with poor kittycat eyes, begged it right away from me. It was sure pretty. It was wierd, because it said MIA on the headstock - I thought the '70's RI were MIM. Oh well, he got a great guitar for a great price IMO.

The deal that I really wanted was a Bass Pod Pro for $109. I ran straight to that table, but someone beat me to it (I was about 75 people back).

I saw a guy get two Martin stage lights (fancy, fancy lights - list @ $2000 each) for $200 each. There were some Triton 61 Workstations for $999 (List $3499). Appraently, a Roland VS-2418 recorder for $499 ($2800 List). I also saw a stack of Crate heads for $299 and 4x12 cabinets for $399. That seemed like a great price, but they only sold one out of the six that they had. They sold a bunch of Tacoma acoustic guitars with electronics for $199 ($1099~1299 List). I got one, plugged it in and it sounded fine. Then later, my friend asked me to plug it in to let him hear it. It never worked again (thanks to my friend for asking me to plug it in again). It had some significant bowing in the neck too. So I put it back for someone else to buy. There was a blound Telecaster Hwy 1 for $424 with a nasty ping on the body (but we all know that is going to happen to those guitars anyway).

It was fun. But I did not find any treasures that I just had to have.

Fender makes a Highway 1 strat that's HSS with a large 70s headstock and logo...maybe it was that?? but they dont make them in olympic white..or with that pickguard...hmm, who knows, fender has quite the relationship with guitar center..the last time i was at one they had blues juniors that were brown tolex with oatmeal grillcloth (like the fender acoustic amps) maybe it was some odd special run of somesort...

John:

That was such an unusual Strat arrangement, that it must have been some sort of FrankenStrat that they had in inventory. I have seen several HSS Strats, but not many that were SSH and large headstock. It was a beauty though.

MIM Strat for $199(!)

I scooped up a brand new, fresh outta the box, MIM Satin Strat in Candy Apple Red for $199. MF still lists these for $349. GC told me that the satin colors were discontinued. No fleaBay on this one -- it's just for me.

My (5-month pregnant) wife joined me on this excursion. I think it was just to keep me in line. She didn't love the color, but she liked how it sounded when I played it, and I liked how it felt, so that was enough for me. So it's my Father's Day / Birthday / Christmas / Anniversary / 4th of July present for this year.

Someone has got a REAL good deal on the fretless bass. It sold on eBay for $329 (street price $459).

I wanted to keep it.

When I was polishing it up to send out, I found not one blemish on this guitar and it played & sounded wonderful.

But wait! Maybe one day I can get another one!!! :D

Oh, oh . . . but not for $199
