Four years ago today...

...the world became a less-cool place with the passing of Mr. Link Wray.

RIP Link. You gave us more than we would ever have dared ask.

Doesn't seem like 4 years, I'm really surprised it is that long now.

I was saddened to hear the news the day he died.
That night I took the stage at an open jam in Raleigh (he was from North Carolina) and mentioned it. No one knew who I was talking about. I said "If you don't recognize his name you'll recognize this song" and whipped into "Rumble".
Nothing.... no one had a clue. The drummer and bass player coundn't find the groove.
How can people that have played for 20 years plus have NEVER heard the song?

He lives on !

The now famous scene in "It Might Get Loud" where Jimmy Page puts on a 45 of "Rumble" and plays air guitar to it w/ a huge grin and then points out the part where Links jacks the tremolo waaaaay up at the end like he'd listened to it a million times.

If Jimmy Page plays air guitar to a song of yours - you're immortal...

I wonder if his family and friends appreciate that he changed the course of music by a degree or two.
