Born in Mahattan, lived early years in the Bronx, then out in the burbs.
Can't help it . . . am and always will be an unapologetic Yankees fan.

Way to go, Yanks!

#27 Hell Yeah

Chet, a little bitter are we?

CONGRATS TO THE YANKEES!!! They are a great team, that's why they won. The Phillies are great too, obviously that's why they played against them. Someone wins, and someone loses, that's how it goes. Skill, talent, dedication, devotion, drive, and "that moment" are what wins the game. Not $$ or luck.

BRING ON THE TICKER TAPE PARADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, the only real fallout from the Evil Empire buying yet another World Series, will be the thousands of children burdened with names like Jeter, Jabba, and Twentyseven. While this mysterious practice seems to somehow vicariously honor their parent's heroes, dropping off little Chien-Ming Jones for a play date with Melky O'Brien seems a cruel and unusual thing to do to a child.

Well, there are players from around the world in Major League Baseball.
I've often wondered why the National Hockey League had its name, when it was never just Canadian. There have always been American and Canadian teams in the NHL.
Of course, with the addition of the Toronto Raptors and the Vancouver Grizzlies (remember them?), the NBA ran into the same problem. It was no longer just a national league.
Basically, though, it's just a name. People who get peeved by the name "World Series" need to let it go.

I will say the following about the Yankees.

Note No. 1: I am originally from New York City so I will probably admit to a little bias. Though I am more a Mets (and now Nationals) fan than a Yankee fan.

Note No. 2: I sympathize and understand the plight of small market teams and agree that, economics wise, it is not a level playing field.

Now on to our observation – Yes, it is true that the Yankees spend a lot of money signing free agents and have the highest payroll in MLB. However, as we can clearly see with my local NFL franchise, spending a lot of money to sign athletes is no guarantee of success.

Big splashy homeruns (though there were some of those) was not the biggest reason why the Yankees won the Series. Nor was it some hotshot free agent pitcher throwing 98 mph heat.

The reason is, for the most part, the Yankees played better, smarter, cleaner baseball. The Angels and the Phillies made foolish errors in the field. The Yankees did not. Though Mark Teixeira did not hit well in the Series he helped his team greatly by playing outstanding first base.

Damon had a great at-bat, fouling off pitches, and then stole two bases on the same play.

Pettitte and Rivera, both older and not as strong as they used to be, pitched with smarts and guile.

There are lots of others examples. The Yankees just played better baseball.

Congrats to them.

Now, let’s sign Bryce Harper and bring the Championship to DC!

fwiw - it's JOBA, not Jabba

Yeah, I know it is Joba.

But with his expanding girth, and typical Yankee attitude, I thought it more fitting that I use the play on words with the Jabba (as in the Hutt).

Call it what you want to call it. That was a great game, and I love seeing Pedro Martinez get shut down. Again. :)

I call it #27. And I'm proud to live in such a great city, with the best team in baseball. Go Yanks!

It was a very good series, with two excellent teams, and the best one won.

As a cricket-loving Brit even I can appreciate the skill, excitement and tension that baseball, at its best, can bring.

It's been a very good season. My youngest son, who just turned 11, has really become a huge yankee fan in the last few years. We've gone to a couple of games a season and three this year as a family. It has been a really great experience. I feel more happy for him than I do the Yanks! I was also lucky enough to attend the ALCS game 6 clincher which was the loudest Yankee game I've even been to!! So yeah, I'm a happy Yankee's fan. Congrats to them. And the Phillies put up a great fight too! Hat's off the them as well.

I never watch baseball during the regular season. With so many games in a season, it doesn't seem to matter who wins in June.
However, the playoffs bring an added pressure to each situation, and that makes it more enjoyable for me. But can you imagine the pressure that Victorino was feeling as he stood at the plate with two strikes, two outs, his team counting on him to keep the inning alive, and Mariano Rivera is staring down at him?
Now THAT is pressure. And it's damned exciting.

I thought that The Phillies made too many bonehead plays in the field.
Ryan Howard running back to 1st to tag the bag instead of charging The Runner and keeping the the OTHER Runner - the one on 3rd from scoring was -to me as bad as Dave Stapleton NOT coming on to play "D" in the 9th back in '86 in Game 6, I mean -a Little Leaguer would have had the presence of mind to charge The Plate and TAG the runner to keep the other Runner from scoring.
Doug Mientiewicz needs to get hired by The Phillies to teach Ryan Howard how to play the bag. Howard -FWIW showed me nothing - the guy is no Manny Ramirez regardless of his numbers. I certainly wouldn't make a deal to get him.

Anyways - who does NY keep - Damon or Matsui - they both have their issues.
Damon can't throw people out at the plate and Matsui has two knees that are shot. So what do they do?

They should have to take the next five years off to give someone else a chance.

OK, not really, but the playing field should be a little leveler, IMHO.

First....let me be clear....I was born in New England and cant think of anything I hate more than the Yankees.

That being said, the field is as level as the market allows....the Yankees are one of the best marketed items in the world.....The are a product that LOTS of people buy...therefore they have the money to buy better things for themself...the YES network, pricier free agents, etc.....they take in the most money, so they can afford to spend the most. If you have a problem with parity in baseball, buy a Rockies hat or a Tampa Bay jersey..don't bash a team who puts money in the bank for 20 other teams through revenue sharing. (But you can bash them for being the YANKEES, lol)

Not one player had a stand out series, but there were a few players, on both teams, that delivered what they are paid to do. I'd be happy to see Pettitte back in an Astro uniform anytime. How about Utley and Werth, huh?

SIMPLE !...Don't sign either and pick up Jason Bay or Matt Holliday (or both $$$) since they are free agents....I'd love to see either in the pinstripes.

joe buck is pretty terrible!
his voice sounds nice but the garbage that just falls out of his mouth...is beyond words...

michael kay is much better as is the legendary John Sterling!

sometimes i put the games on Mute and just play the AM 600 to get the real announcing...

for instance...Mr West last nite...the home plate ump...some interesting facts...he invented the chest protector "West Vest" that is now standard equipment for all Major League Umps in US, Japan, and South America...he is also a country music player who opened for the likes of Dwight Yoakim...and many others...he was an ump for his first world series at 23! and is also a low handicapped golfer...

i bet joe buck doesnt know any of that!
