Thanks for sharing!

Marty takes real good care of the best in country music - both the clothes, the guitars and not least the music itself!

Gotta love the guy ...

Marty is the soul of country music. Great band. It is amazing that they aren't the biggest selling act in the market. Go figgure.

I love, love, love Marty. And, he has never sounded better than with the Superlatives. The thing about Marty is he has actual direct continuity to "the old days" and carries the torch for what this music was, and beyond. I hope and pray there will someone like him around in 30-40 years to do the same.

p.s. What kind of acoustic is that with Porter at the beginning???

"The Grammer Guitar", almost everyone in Nashville during the late '60s had a custom made Grammer guitar. I've played a couple and still don't understand why anyone ever paid money for 'em. They're hard to play and have no tone, but they did look good hangin' on some of those famous singers.

Great. I was driving back from up north a couple years ago and heard a simply beautiful song on some country station. Can't remember the title--think I scribbled it down or 'locked it' in my memory--but do remember it was Marty Stuart, and an older one I wasn't familiar with at all. I thought I knew a little country but didn't know this one. Just an awesome vocal, over-the-top in it's purity and goodness. Wow.

Maybe somebody will know what song it was and direct me.

MS does a pretty good version of Long Black Veil...that sort of fits the description...

But that is really just a shot in the dark.

Great point but will the music of today be worth carrying forward ?, which do you think of todays crop will be revered in 30 - 40 years time ?

Well, I was thinking the cargo would be the same. At that point it would be the music from 60-70 years prior.

Aha !, I get it, just my shaky math !

Do you think there'll be much to carry forward from today's scene though ? ............... anyone ?
I guess if nothing 'songwise' the fluency of the musicians must be pretty skyhigh.

That's a good one.

Interestingly, when I watch the MSS on my analog cable hookup and old CRT television, Gary Carter's steel is NEVER up in the mix.

In this clip I can hear it well.

A channel must be dropping out between me the cable company's headend, or my television is not up to snuff.

Awfully good music.

I do enjoy the the Marty Party!

I think Kenny is going through one Deluxe and one Princeton.

You can see a wireless unit on the back of Marty's acoustic if you look closely.

Kenny plays his tele through the Princeton on stage right and Marty plays his tele through the other Princeton, on stage left of the drummer. Paul plays his bass through a mid '60s Bassman. Marty has a small condenser mic on his acoustic, the D-45 that used to belong to Hank Williams, and that goes straight to the board, via wireless, and is bled into the monitors(no amp for Mando or Acoustic guitar).
The Deluxe was used by Bruce Brown, of the Charlie Daniels Band. They were the guest on that episode and brought their own gear.

I love to bag on drummers, but until you hear Marty's drummer (name escapes me right now, too early) do "Workin On a Building," and hold his part, then you ain't heard good. Man he holds that part forevah! One of the best shows I have ever seen.

Good question.

Also, does anyone know if he'll be returning to the Old Settler's Music Festival in Texas in April 2010???

I don't know when Marty's new shows start, but Red Steagall's new show "In The Bunkhouse" starts tomorrow night.
Most of RFD's new shows start in November, so hopefully Marty's will start up soon.

That chuckwagon cooking on the preview of Red's show has made me hungry for supper. I'll have to put that on the DVR when I get home.

Marty's drummer, "Handsome" Harry Stinson, is an incredible singer. I think he's doing the backing vocals for Vince Gill in this clip too:

Saturday Nights MSS featured the Quebe Sisters Band. It was the last show of last season.

I am totally expecting new shows to begin this week.

But I may be wrong.

This is from the RFD TV site:

The Marty Stuart Show
Little Jimmy Dickens guest stars w/ host Marty Stuart, Connie Smith, and the Fabulous Superlatives.

That sounds a bit like Season 1 Episode 1

Harry has sang harmony on numerous recordings in addition to playing drums...

He's also written songs that have #1.

He played on Guitar Town by Steve Earle which is what got Marty's attention.

I'm sitting in Detention Study Hall (supervisor, not a participant) wondering why the entire world can't me more like the MSS.

That's a powerful puzzlement to me.

***THIS JUST IN FROM RFD-TV***

I dropped them a note and the response from Patrick Gottsch (the head of RFD-TV) was:

Starts mid December.

A bit more than a month until the Marty Party is back with new episodes.

And now we know...

We (the boys in the band) were just talkin' about what a bad ass Marty be. Saw him a couple years ago in town at the Variety Playhouse, a most excellent show. Three big thumbs up for M.S.

As I was saying on that thread that vaporized:

What's not to like about Marty Stuart?

He's like fresh air and clean water.

Good stuff.

He's the Gold Standard for that Hill-billy music; the rest of Nashville needs to take a lesson.

I think Handsome Harry is playing with brushes in the VG clip.

I wish more drummers were concerned about the overall sound of the group.

He's a good one, that's for sure.

On the YouTube Lerb posted, Marty Stuart is singing "Branded." Is that the proper name for the song? Can I purchase it as a single or on an album somewhere?

Thanks.
