Just found out about it thanks to your post...I'm there. New guy here and haven't met any other members yet. Always glad to meet fellow tele enthusiast. Check back in a day or two before the show.

good show. only get there every other year and unless its just my imagination, it seems like i see less and less "interesting" stuff.
if youre a strat, les paul or tele man... and some martins, its great and there's all kinds of decent guitars there. many of the guitars are not that old and standard fare and anything that is old or rare, is usually pretty trashed. i get the impresssion that the great stuff is left at home or is in japan etc. but, its still fun to go and see it all and chat. i might go this year. its about 60 miles east of here. rand z |

I'll be there on Saturday from about Noon on, walking the show with Dawn of Naked Body Guitars. She is a beautiful Woman with long Blonde hair. I may bring one of her Guitars in a White Leather gig bag.
We'll probably be arguing about Sunburst finishes, so it'll be wasy to spot us. Why not just say meet by the food area at 1PM? Down the steps, to the right. Yeah, Joe...how old are THOSE pics?? LOL.

Well, if you're looking to buy something in particular, get there early for best selection.
If you're looking to get a great deal, go on Sunday afternoon--none of those guys wanna pack that stuff up to take home. And remember, none of the prices are set in stone--everything is negotiable--and the closer you get to closing time, the more negotiable it gets. And it also seems to me that the stuff at those shows, unlike every other market in America, just keeps going up, economy be damned. And then they mope about not being able to sell anything. I seem to make it about every other year, as well, and never buy anything more than parts. I've saved up this year and should have about $13 to spend. I'm thinkin' blackguard. Not the guitar, just a black guard, maybe Sunday afternoon...

This seems a reasonable place to say this:
I'm gonna call one of those folks that embroiders hats for the Ham operators with their callsigns and get TPDRI stitched onto a cap--then y'all will know it's me. I was also thinkin' of gettin' a little pin (say, 1.5" square-ish) that's in the shape of a pickguard, (Black, of course), and usin' it like a TDPRI badge of Identification. I suspect I might be there on Sunday afternoon, if anyone's still thinkin' of goin' then.

Philly show score
Well, it may not look like much, but here it is...I know, that look got lambasted in the new Raw Power thread a while back, but this one is special:
It was my first guitar ever, and it was stolen almost 20 years ago! I went to the show (almost didn't, hate goin' alone and missus Marshman got a last minute hair appt) just hopin' to score a few extra tele parts and saw it at about the third booth I stopped at. After that, I was just a walking zombie. I ran into a few folks I know, but was totally in a zone. Went back for it, and scored it for $200 bucks (which is almost exactly what I paid for it in 1987 Deutschmarks when I was a PFC). Gent I bought it from was from Baltimore, @ 65 miles from here, and he said he got it from a guy in Towson, MD, about the same distance from here (Balt suburb) but he wasn't sure how long ago. It's in slightly rougher shape than last time I saw it, but it's probably aged better than I have. Someone busted one of the tuners and put a crappy vintage F-style on it, so that'll hafta go. The electronics seem fine, though it's not had strings on it yet. The truss rod was pretty stiff, but a couple drops of liquid wrench and it was right as rain today. Most of the cleanup is done, a light fret dress seems in order, and hopefully it'll string right up with no trouble. The dress will be easier with the neck removed (it's a bolt-on), so maybe by the end of the week I'll be playin'. In the good news column, it's got a new nut and a really nice Gibson-style case (probably worth $75 bucks itself), and those might be different p'ups...I recall looking under 'em once and seeing single coils under the covers, but the wiring all looks original, so it might have been a different guitar I'm thinkin' of. I'm pretty stoked!

I'm 99% sure it's the same one. There aren't many pics from those days, and there's no serial number, but the look, the knobs, the headstock/tuners, it would be waaaay to strange a coincidence.
Hopefully by tomorrow I'll have it strung up.

It's alive!!!
A fret cleanup, restring, and it's back in business. Sounds like there might be a dicey pot in there, but missus Marshman is watchin' telly, so I'll wait until tomorrow to get it fired up and give the electronics a workout. Intonation is pretty close, too, plenty close enough for a shakedown. As if I needed any more proof that it is, in fact, my old guitar, I found the knob it was missing in a box on my workbench (and I wasn't even lookin' for it) so now it's got a set, though I might swap them out for speed knobs or similar.
