It appears to be a Silvertone 1448L with a replaced Tele-style bridge. Stock Danelectro-made Silvertones had a rosewood wedge bridge, and were difficult to intonate correctly. They were sold at Sears stores and through their catalog.
Source of my information with Sears catalog scans is here.

just like a little mutt puppy: free to a good home. i'm sure you'll take good care of it.
what's that sticker on the back of the headstock? looks like it might have been offered at a garage sale. is it playable? (action is generally bad on a silvertone)

That's a Danelectro-built Silvertone (for Sears), probably from the early-to-mid sixties. I believe that is one of the models that you could get with the famous amp-in-case option.
It's ALMOST a collector's classic - depending on WHO you're talking to. I've seen them go for as little as $50 and as much as $250. Doesn't look too bad, but I'm pretty sure that's not the original bridge, I think these had the standard Dano three-point rosewood wedgie. I don't like that crack in the headstock, but it's not a big deal... Heck, I'd take it for $50!

It actually plays great. The action is low but there's no buzzing or any problems to speak of. The intonation is pretty good up to the twelfth fret. And the pickup sounds great, well defined and clear.
The sticker says: 306 2016 10-26-96 Not sure what to make of that other than the date. |

Sweet! And for free, you have a lot of room for getting minor repairs done. I love the sound of the old Dano pickups. Great score!
My guess on the sticker is pawn shop inventory sticker.

Yes. Many, many Gibsons have had headstocks broken clean off, and glued back on with great success.

Cool looking guitar! Great score.
My guess would be that the tuners aren't original, and that the same person that replaced the bridge did the tuners, except they didn't ream out the holes, causing a crack. I would glue the crack (if it hasn't already been fixed), and ream out the tuner holes (if indeed they are too small for the tuners). Also maybe install some tuner bushings EDIT: Yep, this is what they look like originally: ![]() Might be worth it to sell the bridge/tuners on there now, and replace them with something newer - you could probably get away with calling the parts 'vintage' and get a pretty penny. |

If You found that on a curb IT IS HOT!!!
Report it to The Police to be on the right side of The Law. I'm sorry Man but I doubt if anyone is THAT STUPID/NAIVE to leave that on a curb. Seriously.

OMG! This is the source of childhood GAS...back before I even played.
My friend down the street had one. I was about 9-10. I would have gone into complete euphoria. Love the mods. ![]() My story was a garage sale last weekend where I was given a P4 laptop with a gig of RAM. And they sold me a Hartke B300 for $3.

You should be walking on sunshine Goodwillhunter. The 1448 Amplifier Case set is a super collector thing.
You've seen these haven't you???? ![]() The set was available at Wade's Guitar Shop on the East Side of Milwaukee (Pristine) for about $1000. This was a very popular starter set. I think you got the guitar for free. 1448 Amplifier case Set Info - link Check out this video....it's a bit goofy but check it out... I know a couple of older guys who would look at that guitar just like they would remember getting a Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas in 1962. VERY COOL! John

Whereabout I am I actually seen that sort of thing pulling $350 to 500 in good shape, there's seemingly a market for them. I pretty much traded an Ibanez Artcore, a Roland Cube 30 and a bunch of old video games for a Silvertone Danelectro U1 a couple years ago before the market nosedived.
How's it play and sound?
