The "Holy Grail" Chicken' Picken' instrumental is?
If you could play one impressive CPicken' Instrumental what would it be?
Hot Wired? Cudge Boogie? A Forrest Lee Jr., Albert Lee, or Redd V. solo? Maybe a Paisley thing or Doug 7's little signature goodie? What would be your choice...or....what have you learned that is the most difficult but most satisfying? |

For me, it's an Arlen Roth tune called Upstate Rag.

How about "Memphis, Tennessee" (is that correct?), the old Johnny Rivers tune, done by our own "Big John"! See his thread http://www.tdpri.com/forum/bad-dog-c...1-pubbing.html
Maybe not the "Holy Grail", but hey, it's fun to listen to!

I'd have to say Paisley's Nervous Breakdown, from his very first cd Who Needs Pictures, there's also a video of this tune on you tube from an old Austin City Limits show that was done quite a few years ago,Paisley looks really young, kind of like a little boy lol!! He's playin' his trusty old Pink Tele sounds awesome. Mark Moree aka DblStop

That's the live version. Too fast. My personal choice would be this instrumental:

Regarding the Cluster Pluck video - -Instant Admittance to the Tabbers Hall of Fame for the first to accurately tab it out.
Instant Admittance to the Picker's Hall of Fame to the first one to play the whole thing, at speed, all by themselves. |

A lot of work, but doable. Not sure I have the time to invest, we'll see. But here's all the tab, so at least that's not an issue!

Who did all that tabbing? You are Inducted whether you tabbed it or found it.
If accurate, this tab would keep someone busy for about 4 months of daily practice. Not sure if anyone has that kind of time to invest...maybe me after I finish up next week with "Hot Wired." Seems like anyone who got all of Cluster Pluck down would not have much left to learn about Chick'n Pick'n. PS: loved listening to the different tones of the players...could the Paisley tone and the Albert Lee tone be any further apart? |

I was in Tallahatchie County, MS a few weeks ago and thought about that song. I have not heard that version before.

Dunno if you'd call it "Chicken Pickin'" but "Buckaroo" by Buck Owens (Don Rich actually) was a real big influence on me. I remember it on the airwaves in Ottawa, Canada when I was about 10 or so. It really embodied the tele tone and attitude for me. Regards.

...Gene played me a tape of "Nashville West" in '73 that eventually came out on Sierra Records in 1978,and the version of "Ode to Billy Joe" is one of the tunes I heard when he played the tape...he told me that it was the first recording of Clarence playing electric... ...Gene let me play my '54 Telecaster through Clarence's BF Vibrolux Reverb, the same amp he used when I heard the Byrd's at the Fillmore West when they headlined in August of 1969... ...Gene also let me play a bender at the time through the same amp... ...Gib would show up in Mendo every once in a while...I've got a couple of his solo albums "Toe Tappin' Music" and "Sings"... ...regarding Jim Dickenson:I heard him at the Folk Alliance International in Memphis earlier this year...he wasn't feeling that well, but it was fun to hear him perform... |

Every Merle Haggard track with James Burton from the "Lonesome Fugitive" period (circa 1967). James and Ralph Mooney just lay it out for you, plain and simple.
Jaw dropping chicken-pickin' if you ask me!
