DVD to MP3
I have a concert dvd that I really like, and I would like to convert it to mp3's so I can listen to it on my computer at work. Does anyone know how to do this? I looked online for some software, but it all seemed to be for DVD audio tracks, not for a regular DVD. It would be best if it was free or shareware.
Thanks!

It's possible (for free too), I've done it, but can be either complicated or time consuming. You may need to convert the DVD to VOB files (DVD -> VOB -> WAV -> MP3), then extract the audio from those. Basically you need a few the freeware programs to do this, with a shell on top of it, that uses all them software in the right order.
I can check for the software I have on my PC at home, if nobody else comes up with a solution right off the bat.

I found the site I got my software from:
http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/software2.htm (Doom9.net - The definitive DVD backup resource.) I've used SmartRipper 2.41 to copy the DVD on the hard drive as VOB-files. But I forget which software I used for the VOB -> wav(= CD music) / -> MP3 ... one of the Audio Tools on that site anyway.

The surely are tools for this, but they are not freeware!
Never tried any of the shareware, but here's what I found googleing for "dvd to mp3": http://www.orionstudios.com/DVDtoMP3.html http://www.dvdtomp3.net/ http://www.tucows.com/preview/335007.html MP3 naturally is not a big hit among audiophiles, as it is a lossy format. I personally don't care though.

I used my regular out-board DVD player, RCA out to line in on computer, then recorded the tracks as wav files. Edit the wave files, burn to CD. No big deal. The real time consuming portion is getting levels set correctly before you actually hit "burn".

It worked - sort of
I ripped the DVD with DVD Decrypter. This worked great, except I kept running out of space. I didn't realize how much space that was going to take! Once I had the .vob files, BeSweet encoded them as .mp3 no problem. The only thing is, there were like 10 huge .mp3's, each one containing 3 or 4 songs. So I downloaded a trial version of an .mp3 splitter and split up the tracks, and deleted the huge mp3's. Then I discovered that the splitter was actually not splitting the tracks where I told it to, and it cut the ends off many of the tracks. Like I said, I had already deleted the originals. So now I'm going to have to start over, but since I know what I'm doing it shouldn't take too long. Thanks again for the help, that doom9 site answered all my questions!
