GRETCHEN WILSON
is one of my favorites! I think she's a cross between Shainia Twain and Bocephus!!!!! lol, No, seriously, she is unbelievable and just tore it up tonight!!!! I already posted about her performance in the main page.
Clint Black is singing now, and Brent is playing the "boogie-woogie" guitar parts - not the guy on stage. Brent sounds pretty darn good too! |

Not a bad gig, sitting on the bed eating dinner and watching tv, listening to yourself play, and making money all at the same time. He did work about 12 hours today so even though I'm joking it isn't as glamorous as it sounds! Brent worked with Bill Hullett Tuesday (a tdpri-er) by the way. |

I agree, Gretchen Wilson is terrific.
I just heard "Redneck Woman" for the first time last week on an Internet radio station, and it sent me scurrying to Google to find out more. Great song, with a great hook and fun built-in "listener participation" ("Hell, yeah!"). :-)
Turns out the tune is setting all sorts of sales records, which is great. EXCEPT... what worries me is that industry execs (and I mean the country music media folks too, not just the record company), possessed of such an uncanny talent for spotting success after it's happened, will now fall all over themselves trying to promote her as the latest, hottest thing. I guess I'm worried that she'll quickly get over-promoted and way over-saturated, following the Billy Ray Mulletcut/"Achey Breaky Heart" model. The difference, of course, is that Gretchen Wilson appears to be a pretty darn good songwriter and truly promising new talent. But at the ACM awards, she was already being introduced as "that redneck woman herself," and was sporting a guitar with "Redneck" inlaid on the fingerboard. I just hope she has enough talent to weather the success of one HUGE record and emerge on the other side as an artist with some staying power. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed. :-) CS |
