Dallas TDPRI Meet-up and JAM --> Nov. 3rd = Twang Tuesday!
Howdy folks, It's been a while since we've had one of these. In the past, Joe-Bob has taken point organizing these and rented the space and provided the band and equipment in exchange for a $10 donation from each jammer.
This time, instead of hiring out our own space, I've spoken with Dallas Blues curmudgeon Hash Brown, and asked if he'd be willing to dedicate one of his regular Tuesday night Blues jams to the cause of Twang. Hash will probably bring his '56 and possibly his original '54, probably a MIM or two. I know that Tuesday night will not be convenient for everyone, but it's a nice location, the band and equipment are already paid for, and if this works out, "Twang Tuesday" could turn into a regular once-a-month deal. The venue is Ernie's of North Dallas. Ernie's is on the South East corner of Beltline and the Tollway, in the Village on the Parkway Plaza. Check the website for pictures of the inside of the club, menu, and additional directions. The food is excellent and they have happy hour drink specials from 7 to 8 pm. Parking is abundant, safe, and free. The jam is scheduled from 7 pm to 11 pm, so even though it's on a week night, I'm hoping this will be early enough that most people will be able to attend. If you bring a Telecaster, there is NO COVER CHARGE! Bring a Strat and it's $5. Bring a Les Paul and it's $20, except for Joe-Bob, who is welcome to bring anything he wants! Bring a pointy guitar or anything with a Floyd Rose, and you will be teased incessantly for the duration of the evening... (Bigsby's are okay... . . . . . Seriously, ALL ARE WELCOME, and there is NO COVER CHARGE for anyone, but jammers are encouraged to try the food, and there will be a tip jar for the band if you think they deserve it. You are welcome to bring your own guitar or amp, but it's not required. I will make one of my MIK Lite Ash Teles available for jammers, and as I said, Hash Brown will probably have a MIM or two. I won't be able to get there until around 9 pm, but I hope to see at least a few other TDPRI'ers... Let me know if you think you can make it! |

Thanks for the words of wisdom. Maybe I posted this too early,, but I thought that would give people a chance to mark their calenders and plan accordingly.
I think it would be great to have a regular Tele jam in Dallas. I mean, this is DALLAS, not New Jersey, right? Maybe all the real Tele pickers are in Connecticut these days? Just hoping we get some interest. |

Meant to say, "Hash will probably bring his '51 body with a '63 neck, possibly his original '51, and probably his MIJ..."
Speaking strictly for myself, sometimes the loopy guitar player thing isn't just an act! Gary, have you guys ever had any jams over in Cowtown? In the future, it might be kinda' cool to alternate jams back and forth between our respective sister cities, if there's anyplace over there that would have us. |

Bump & Run
Thought I'd bump this back up high this morning. Man, I'd like to come to the jam but I am just too far away in Crowley. A weekend nite you bet but having to be at work the next morning at 6:30 AM sucks. I will however be in F.W. tonight celebrating my brides B'Day. Maaaaaybe we can get by to hear and meet you Mr. Hash Brown! Hope you all have a great jam and I'm looking forward to a Ft. Worth Jam in the future.
Rob

Tele-Meister
|
Until Hash Brown shows up to help identify some of the other folks, I'll give it a shot on some of the guys that I know. For starters that is Dallas' own bluesmeister (transplanted from Connecticut, I believe) Hash Brown holding the two Telecasters. Hash Brown is one of the most respected blues guitarists around, as well as being a great harmonica player, vocalist and songwriter. He has been hosting regular blues jams in Dallas for over twenty years. He's done a lot of recording - both on his own and backing up other folks.
Other guys are Brian Wilkinson (goatee, wearing a gray cap and playing the sunburst tele), from the blues band Three Time Fool. Wallace "Wally" Watson (white hair, leather jacket) is in one photo playing a butterscotch Tele. Brandon (Buck) Galbraith, also with the band Three Time Fool, with the dark ballcap and playing a butterscotch Tele, in one of the photos of Hash Brown. Then there's Macus (Whitey), wearing the blue denim shirt. There are also a couple of photos of Holland K. Smith. Holland is another great guitarist, vocalist, songwriter. He's toured internationally and has several recordings. He's another one to put on your list of acts not to miss if he comes to your area. That's Holland in the photo that shows Hash Brown's drummer Kevin Schermerhorn. Last edited by Kerry Vance; November 4th, 2009 at 12:49 PM. |

That's me up there with Wally with my HWY1.
The guy with the nice Thinline whose face is obscured by the mic goes by Big Mike. The guy with the white hair and glasses goes by Uncle Sam. I have lots of other pics too, but I only posted the Tele player pics. |

Hey Everybody,
it sure was fun! Here is a little more info on the guitars and players: My two teles: red one is a 51' body with 63' neck, other one is a Dec. 51' Tele(#1630). The nice quilted thinline played by Mike Brandenburger is a custom made job, neck and body by Brian Monte. Marcus is playing a Tokai Breezy Tele Brian Wilkinson is actually Mike King(original drummer for 3 time fool) playing a Highway 1 Tele. Lin Woodham is playing a 59' Tele he has owned since he was 14 years old. Buck Galbraith is playing a custom made 53' copy Tele made by Big Tex down near Houston. Mike Bennett(playing a green 62' custom shop reissue) and Sam Bifano(custom made tele) Others not pictured: Randy Williams playing a 56' custom shop reissue, Paul Shnieder playing a Mexi tele, Doug(?) playing a cool Custom made white thinline. All in all, probably 20 or more teles in the room at once. Pretty cool. |

FYI, Just got an email from Hash saying that he's going to try and do a Twang Tuesday at Ernie's the first Tuesday every month and see if it picks up.
The next one will be December 1st, so for all you folks who couldn't make it last time, mark your calendars, and try and make it out! |
