Classified Sellers with ZERO Posts?!

Recently I've noticed an uptick in classified ads posted by sellers with no posting history.

Maybe I'm a bit paranoid, but it doesn't mean they're not out to get me...

Since TDPRI doesn't offer any kind of buyer/seller protection, I like to read a member's posts to get a feel for what kind of person they are and how they might possibly treat their gear (and/or their customers...)

I'd feel better buying something from one of the longtime TDPRI scoundrels (you know who you are!) than buying something from someone completely unknown.

Is there any kind of reliable online payment service that offers buyer protection? I do have PayPal, but I think they only protect you if you buy something on eBay...

Ya know what?I have noticed this too and it doesn't seem quite right for someone to join a forum for the sole purpose of selling gear.Maybe something like a min number of post or period of time before being allowed to sell.We definatly need some sort of protection..JMHO

I see it as a 2 way street.

Let's say a vendor has some lemon stuff he wants to dump. He joins, he makes small talk for a while, helps a few guys with some issues and his count is say 40, or 80.

Now he goes to do the dirty deed and he can't do it. He's formed just enough of a connection he doesn't know for sure he won't regret it went he sticks the knife in.

I'm sensing some trust issues.

Do you try to get to know folks on craigslist before you buy from them?

No, but Craigslist is local. I get to meet someone face to face at a mutually agreeable location, and inspect the merchandise first.

Let people advertise.
I too, have seen the 0 post deal, but out of all the times I have dealt with sellers in the classifieds I have had trouble with only one of them. He sold the cab to someone else after I had committed to buying it, and you know....karma, and all that.

Yeah, I'd noticed a few zero-post classifieds, thought it highly unusal. I guess it's one way to avoid all the ebay/CL crazies, go straight to the loons (us).

Is that really spookier than the guy that joined in May 2005 and has 3 posts, one today?

What?!?!? You mean you don't believe the guy with no posts trying to trade his "prototype" Fender Bassman for other rare amps?
