Worst Fashion Ever!
I don't like moaning threads, but this annoys me.
Why do young chaps (sometimes not so young), think it's cool to wear low jeans and high underpants? To me it's the worst fashion statement ever - completely devoid of any style. Evidence for the prosecution; 12.jpg

i don't like underwear at all, but I bet people often wish that they were looking at my boxers when my jeans are falling off!

I actually mind that less than the popped polo shirt collars.

I worked at a hospital in Kansas City that had a dress code of "significant overlap" of top scrubs over bottom scrubs to prevent the ladies from having that whale tail thang goin' on...

First, I'm fairly sure that girl is wearing a halloween costume, if not then... geuh. And as for the guys with the low jeans and high underwear.
There are two origins: The first comes from prisons and is more of a "gangsta" look. In the prisons inmates weren't (aren't? I don't know I haven't been in jail) allowed to have belts since they could be used as a weapon. As a result the baggy clothes would droop down. Once they were out they continued because it's what they were used to, felt comfortable. The second can be traced to skaters. They often wear tight skinny jeans which are "sagged" (pulled down intentionally) so that there is an amount of fabric around the pelvic area. This is in case they are grinding a rail and they happen to do a split onto the rail. The idea is that the fabric will act somewhat like an air bag and slow down the impact and save some serious pain. That's all I got. I personally don't do either. EDIT: However sometimes, as I'm very skinny, my boxers ride up on their own. I've taken to wearing boxer briefs as they're better in every way really. |

Don't look at me, I used to show up for school with long hair, jeans, a dashiki and cowboy boots on. I was also known for the "metalskirt" - a flannel shirt tied around your waist. I still don't know how to dress. And yeah, the popped polo shirt collar cracks me up as well. My pet peeve, though, is people who insist on wearing sweatpants everywhere. I swear to God, I've seen people out to dinner in nice restaurants or showing up for work or even a gig wearing sweatpants. Not even stripy, sleek track suit pants, but baggy old-school gym class style. This forced me to write a reggae song many years ago entitled, "Sweat Pants are not Clothes." But to no avail. The sweatpants torture continues.

I laugh when I see gangsta's walking all straddle-legged just so they can keep their sagging pants up. It looks just like the way my granddaughter walked when she had a full load in her diaper.

Actually 80s clothes and todaysd clothes are not that much different. see the same nikes and addidas at footlocker for the most part, same kind of t shirts, same jeans (minus stone washed). the 80s started the modern era. not much has changed. |

Or were you talking to me? I've seen plenty of photos of regular people from the 80's, wearing day-to-day 80's attire, and most of it is HIDEOUS. I'd take the dirty hippy look over the shell suit look any day. |

Three things that make me feel old and out of touch.....
1. Droopy butt crack jeans. Nice. 2. The staying power of video games (I would rather play guitar......or mow my lawn.....or go fishing.....or anything else.) 3. Texting. I have email on my iphone. I can talk to you through my iphone. I don't want to text back and forth. I'm officially middle aged.......older than dirt. I think that the guys who walk around the mall with their pants falling off look really silly. Do cute 17 year old girls like that or do they think that guys are slobs? Weird.

Maybe it's different in other areas of the U.S. but most "fashion concious" folks around here tend to wear tighter pants these days....often ridiculously-so!
The "baggy/saggy pants" backlash is humorously out-of-step with what's going on, and verges on the edge of racism at this point. (Hip Hop and Rap fans seem to be the only ones sporting that look.) This isn't meant to be an accusation of the Original Poster. And as a dude in his mid-30s that tends to dress too young I feel like I'm wearing "Mom Jeans" (like Obama) if I'm comfortably in between. Fashion sucks!

The 80s rocked in every way. The clothes were great. I loved most of the hairstyles too. And everybody was in shape, tried their best and were CLEAN.
Then came the dirty scummy 90s. Uggghhh (shudder). And since then, everything is just recycled from past decades without anything new. JMHO YMMV!

![]() When I was in junior high and high school, our everyday wear consisted of jeans, slacks, t-shirts polos, etc. The girls wore the fem equivalent. The sort of thing the young lady is wearing above, and the male equivalent (think moccasin boots and peasant shirts) were our "Sunday go to meetin'" clothes. We thought they were groovy.
