The gear or is it me?
I own too much gear so I try many set ups guitars amps stomps, so Last week I was experimenting with different set ups and I found a combination that was sounding real sweet .
I left town for a few days and when I returned home everything was set up the same , guitar, amp, and fx. But when I went to play it sounded wrong. The Main thing that changed was my emotional state. Which makes me realize its not the gear its me. |

Is that a rhetorical question? Because you seemed to have answered it in your post.

Yeah....I don't change the settings on my AC15....some days it is the greatest amp EVER made....other days it's, well, just another piece of kit.
Strange how that happens... |

Yeah - it's a strange phenomenon - I'll find a set up that I'll love only to come back to it a day later and go "Huh? What was I thinking?"
It's frustrating to say the least. It also makes me not trust my ears as much as I'd like to. |

It sounds like tired ear syndrome to me, it happens all the time in the studio. You mess about all day and finally lay down a track late in the evening which sounds great, the next morning you play it back for your management pleased and punch only to realise it sounds like someone doing Karaoke blind drunk.
Hour on hour off is the answer.

Emotional states have a lot to do with perception, but the tired ear thing does make a lot of sense. |
