When you play: what do your animals do?

I have two wonderful mutts.

Oddly enough, when I play, even when I'm playing as loudly as I please (not break-the-windows loud, but as loud as I can comfortably stand it in my small-ish guitar room), they just stick around and listen.

They love to come lay down on the carpet and sorta take a nap while I play.

One of them HATES loud sounds, too. Anything cracking like thunder, fireworks, etc., just gets her all riled up. But guitar? Just relaxes her, even distorted and cranked!

Always found that odd.

What do yours do?

Funny as it sounds, it depends on where I'm playing. I have music room, and if I'm playing in there, Maggie, my pup will curl up on the floor next to my stool. But if I'm playing out in our front room (it's actually an old porch that's closed in), she'll grab her favorite ball and want to play catch while I play. It's a long narrow room, and she get up some good speed, so in between tunes I'll toss the ball with her. While I'm playing the song, she'll sit patiently and wait till I throw again.

She's my biggest fan.

benson, our 4 year old jack russel/poodle mix, is a jazz lover. well, either that or it puts him to sleep. aptly named, the little bugger, i guess...

when i'm playing jazz, he'll hang around in the room, usually curl into a ball near my feet, and fall asleep. he'll do that when i'm spinning jazz records as well. any other kind of music, and he'll usually leave the room.

then, there's the example of my wife put on some coldplay one day, and he vomited, almost instantly, but that's a whole 'nuther story.

My dog just howls. Sometimes he'll come into the room, stand next to me and howl like he's singing along. Other times he heads for the stairs like he wants to get away (can't say that I blame him) and he will howl upstairs.

My faithful Maggie cockapoo has a blanket in my music area and she just hangs out. But if I turn up way loud she gets out.

When I had a dog as a kid, he would keep me company and then howl if I sang. He sang better than I did.

My cat wants to climb in my lap if I'm sitting on the couch playing. We usually end up compromising, with his butt on the couch and his front paws in my lap.

Pets are so worth it!

Gumby -my cat, runs away. I guess I'm that bad...... He goes to the kitchen and falls asleep by the refrigerator.

Then again, I thing he's overly sensitive to sound. He knows just by the sight of the vacuum cleaner that it's time to haul a$$.

My guitar amp at home is next to my computer chair. When I play, one of my dogs lays on my feet, under the chair.

haha my cats run and hide! I once had a dog though that no matter how loud it was would come and sit/lay right in front of the amp.

The cat runs. My four year old Boxer jumps up on the couch next to me and takes a nap. Smart guy; his "escape route".

yeah, see, one of my two girls HATES the vacuum cleaner too. So I was surprised that she loves the guitar playing. When I teach my nephew, she tries to subtly climb up in his lap while he's playing! She love 'im.

Ahhh, pets. Weird, but lovable.

Oh, that's just plain evil CP.

Mrs. Brokenjoe bought one of those for 'The Gumby', and same as the vacuum cleaner -when ever it appears, he heads for the hills!

My dog used to walk up to the amplifier and stare at the grillcloth. He'd **** his head to the side, trying to figure out what on earth that thing making the noise was. It was really funny to see. Now though, he just ignores it and sleeps.

My wife's cats come around. Pooh Bear will sit next to me or sit in front of the amp and the girl cats come around, but not as often as Pooh.

Our golden doodle loves to listen, especially when I play acoustic. He comes in and sits near me. Loud electric doesn't seem to bother him. I always say that the dog is my biggest fan.

years ago, one of my dobermans we had at the time ate my Twin amp i had when we left him in the house while we went visiting...we came home there was nothing but scraps of tolex and pieces of the cabinet laying in shards all over the floor; chassis was fine other than he "wet" it down; i trashed it all....that shoulda told me something then, i suppose.....feller had issues; same dog also ate my Lazy Boy recliner, but thats another time another story..

2 little min-pins we have now just tolerate it what few times i decide to play at home..i think all "little family" guys have really sensitive ears, be it doggies or catsies...a rottie we had seemed to actually like music and would dance and cavort around when i played...

The animals ignore me mostly. We had a tomcat that would go to sleep at my feet when I played my classical.
