My friends and family all play stringed instruments. We also all play (socially) both Guitar Hero and Rock Band because.....it's simple fun while getting together with friends!

Every one of us plays real instruments better than we play the game. Every one of us thinks we rule as drummer when actually we all suck really bad.

Part of what makes it great fun is that we can laugh at each others inability. With the new Beatles version I know full well I can learn a Beatles tune on guitar way faster than I can learn to "play" it on the game, but I can make a party of it with the game.

I also suck at MotoGP4 but own 2 race bikes.

games are no replacement for reality, but FUN is a good replacement for watching dull episodes of Heroes or Lost.

And the Jackson estate only gets (at most) half of what Northern Songs makes after it pays John, Paul, and George and other expenses.

It's also not entirely clear that Michael Jackson's estate will own all of that music once the debt vs. asset assessment is finally done.

So you don't like Ringo much then, do you?

Ringo is the Rodney Dangerfield of Rock 'n Roll History.

Actually, I really dig Ringo; I think he is one of the great underrated musicians and has always had a great attitude about being one of the most famous people on the planet for a time. All the same, I don't think he makes much from Northern Song publications, does he? I think the only songs that he wrote that are part of the Northern Songs catalog are "Octopus's Garden" and "Don't Pass Me By." I might be missing one or two.

I was very skeptical too, but my awesome sister-in-law works for a distributor and gave me a promo copy 2 disc sampler of the new remasters this weekend. Last night I was doing some A-B comparisons with headphones. They sound a LOT cleaner, and the individual instruments and voices really pop. I could hear things that I didn't know were there, and I've been listening to the Beatles since I was 5. For example, at exactly 1:44 of the song 'If I Fell,' you can hear Paul's voice break on the high harmony. On the original 'Hard Day's Night' version, it sounds like they dropped in an overdub to try and fix it. The separation and clarity of the mix is unreal.

I'm not going to buy the whole box set, but they have the albums individually, and they're reasonably priced, so I ordered a copy of 'Let It Be' on Amazon last night. I have 'Let It Be...Naked,' but not the original version.

I'm not going to run out and replace my whole Beatles collection in one go, but based on what I've heard on the promo discs, they really did an amazing job.

Well, spent lunch listening to the remasters and there's no doubt at all; easy to hear it's cleaner, bass and percussion more forward and thoroughly enjoyable.

my shop has them all on sale for $12.99 each until Friday or with a matching t-shirt and 10-cd holder for $29.00.

I used to have a friend who had a good 4 track and we used to separate the tracks and little things like the harmonies being off, or someone's voice breaking were things we discovered. When I told people that their recordings were not "perfect" but amazing as a whole, people dismissed that the four from Liverpool could be human and make mistakes.

One good source is going on youtube and listening to anytime the Beatles played live. One can hear idosyncracies which are in the proper studio albums. George Martin did a good job in taking what they did and come up with a pleasant sounding product. What's also revealing are Beatles bootlegs and takes that didn't make it or were scrapped. What the Beatles came up with are like any band, with many takes and bloopers all over the place. But it's the realness of remastered recordings which make any band more interesting to me.

I also hate lip synch tv shows and much prefer bands doing stuff live on tv.

Did you ever see that show on VH1 Classic, 'Classic Albums?' I love how they go back to the masters and take apart each song track by track. It's like looking at a painting up close and seeing all the brushstrokes.

The one about 'Nevermind' by Nirvana was kind of eerie, hearing Kurt Cobain's solo acoustic track on 'Something in the Way'...apparently he was lying on the couch by the console, Butch Vig just stuck a mic in front of him, and that's the take that ended up on the record.

The one with Fleetwood Mac's 'Rumours' was great too. I don't think I ever appreciated how great a guitarist Lindsey Buckingham is until I saw that show.
