New Black Crowes Album- "Before the Frost..."

I preordered it and it came over the weekend. Still processing it, but I dig it so far. Seems a little more adventurous than the last one, but it still sounds like the Crowes.

Lots of open G sounding Tele sounding stuff on here.

Anyway, post your thoughts here...

I've been listening all weekend. Great album from one of my favorite bands. So far I like it even more than Warpaint. Luther really opens up a lot more on this record and a couple of his leads rival Marc Ford as far as emotional impact.

For the doubters out there, the disco/funk laden "I Ain't Hiding" single, is not remotely indicative of the rest of the album.

Saw the Crowes on Thursday night. They played a lot of stuff that I've never heard before, which I am assuming is from the new cd. Sounds like it should be a great record. It sounded great live, even "I Ain't Hiding" sounded really good live. That disco beat at the beginning had me worried at first.

I agree with that, but I'm also a little bemused by the response to "I ain't Hiding", both here and elsewhere. I got no problem with a little hint of disco, and if funk is wrong, I don't want to be right.

I realize Crowes fans are not typically the most musically adventurous (fankly, neither am I), but I wouldn't think there would be so much ado about the sliding bass/high-hat shuffle from the Donna Summer Days.

I really like "I ain't Hiding". It's more interesting than anything on Warpaint, IMO.

Also, I really dig buying records direct from the artist (as I've done with Cheap Trick, Wilco, and this one. Seems like they artist might get to keep more of the dough.

I guess I should clarify.... I like "I Ain't Hiding" as well. It was a bit of a shock at first, but I dig it now. It reminds me of "Ozone Mama" on Lions, which also got a rather bad revue from Many long time Crowes fans.

Well, after 5 days hearing the double album I have to say it's becoming one of my BC favorite records.

LOVE the Crows. The leadsinger in my band once asked me that if I had the choice to join whatever band in the world what my choice would be. The Black Crowes was my answer. I didn't even need to think about that, they always had the perfect blend of hard hitting rock and smooth balads.

So if Chris and Rich Robinson would contact me to join the crows, I'd take along my Gibson Explorer and my Strat "The Wizard" and I'd buy a Les Paul Junior. For amps I'd probably buy a pair of Fender Deville amps one clean, one overdriven and use an A/B to switch between them, no effects whatsoever.
