The Puffy Shirt Conspiracy Uncovered!
For years ( actually days or maybe a few hours ) I have been obsessed with the link between rock guitarists and puffy shirts. I have always suspected that the puffy shirt was a uniform worn by members of P.O.W.E.R.S. ( Puffy Wearing Electric Rockers Society ). This group is so secretive and so powerful that none of us knew it existed until now. Please help me compile more proof of this super - secret society by " outing " rockers who wear ( or have worn ) the terrifying uniform of P.O.W.E.R.S. I have posted a few here just to start the outing.

Haha, now I know the reason it's so hard to find a puffy shirt! You can't buy them!!! They are given to you!

Some early memories....
Check out Cab Calloway's band shots from the 40's, http://www.cabcalloway.cc/photo_archive.htm Cuban band leaders Xavier Cugat (20's thru ?) and Desi Arnaz's bands from the 50's. Don't forget the Tom Jones shirts in the 60's. It's a great look and timeless. Ed |

Those puffy shirts were actually in style in the early 70's I'm sorry to say. My friends and I all wore them, no ruffles though. The coolness of the shirt was directly proportional to the puffiness of the sleeves. All kinds of weird colors and stripes too.

I really hate to be a stick in the mud (ever wondered how that saying came into being. Why would anyone hate to be a stick in mud????
)But....but....Puffy Wearing Electric Rockers is actually P-W-E-R- where does the "O" come from???? I think a better acronym would be Puffy OWNING and Wearing Electric Rockers ala - P.O.W.E.R.'s It's recess time, class is dismissed. You know, sometimes I even annoy myself.

oh man, i was, am, and always will be a puffy shirt aficionado - minus the knowledgeability. I love the puffy shirts, and I don't care what decade I missed out on.
by the way, I am a bit off of my rocker - a combination of northern california and new jersey can do that to you.

P.O.W.E.R.S. even slithered into the heart of a Blues legend.

Well, I have been flustrated but ya'll know they real godfathers of the use of ruffles in Rock and Roll are Ray Davies and the Kinks. My recollection is they had the most puffy shirts, and they did it first. But I can't find the You Tubes to prove it. :^( And ya gotta give me a break, at least my post has a Telecaster in it.

I was just waiting for malsteen to show up! Where's Blackmore and Al di Meola etc, and on that note the guitar trio was the ultimate merging of puffy shirts and blinding unnecessary technique!
