Not Really A Dilemma

I went to Gearfest. Had a great time. Saw Greg Koch and played a theremin and got free shirts from the guys in the Fender tent and met the Sweetwater twitter guy face-to-face. And I bought a vintage-style Fender strap, because I saw a pic of Johnny Depp slinging a blackguard with one that was just cool.

They didn't have that one, but they had a similar Planet Waves one that they gave me instead, just so I wouldn't go home empty-handed. The warehouse guy was going to give me a padded Levi strap, but I had my heart set on the vintage thin style. If I had a B-bender, I'd love the padded, but nope.

And today I got a shipping notice from Sweetwater. The website link says there's a Fender vintage strap on a FedEx truck as we speak.

One of the first things I did was tell my wife, because we're on the skinny part of the paycheck, and the second-to-last thing I need is my wife thinking we're going to have an explosion of bounced utility checks because I got myself a new strap. And, as soon as it arrives and I'm sure it isn't a shipping phantom or something, I'll contact Sweetwater and figure out if they want it back. Which, of course, I have to do.

I was happy. Now I'm worried.

Only mistake I can see is you telling your wife about the strap. Something I learned quickly is that if you throw your new gear in with the old she'll never notice. You can even sneak new guitars in there every couple years.

She gets the mail. I do not want to come home and hear "WHAT DID YOU GET?" yelled by a woman who thinks I gave our credit rating another blow by spending money we don't have on gear.

I hadn't really told her about the Planet Waves strap on the "all gear looks alike" theory.
