Try the tongue sandwich...it speaks for itself!
But personally, I wouldn't eat anything that came out of the mouth of an animal...just give me an egg! Have never had liver & onions, but love chicken livers and braunschweiger! |

Love it. Beef liver and chicken livers. Haven't had other livers. Liver and onions...hell to the yes.

My favorite quote From M*A*S*H
"I've eaten a river of liver and an ocean of fish! I've eaten so much fish, I'm ready to grow gills! I've eaten so much liver, I can only make love if I'm smothered in bacon and onions!" - Hawkeye Pierce, "Adam's Rib"

Beef liver, fried with onions. Haven't tried adding bacon, but I can't see how anything wouldn't be improved with bacon.
Chicken livers, glah. HORRID. I can understand why a lot of people think they hate liver... my grandmother always turned it into leather and served it with stewed tomatoes. Vile. My dad always thought he hated liver, until he found out that his mother just sucked at cooking it. Liver is actually the first meat I would ever eat as a child... they couldn't get me to eat steak or chicken for a long time.

I like it fried well done with onions and fried potatoes & then smother it with ketchup, otherwise I wouldn't eat it.

I love liver and heart, but that's as far as I go with it. No tripe, spleen, kidneys, sweetbreads, tongue, feet, tails, eyeballs etc-with the exception of hot dogs. In that case, ignorance is bliss!

Liver and onions! Yeah! Especially deer liver, fried just to the point it's starting to curl up on the edges like old shoe leather.
Turkey and chicken liver is good too, but they can't compete with fried gizzards. Justin |

A fancy home-cooked meal that my parents enjoyed was liver sausage, along with blood sausage.
Us kids had to choke it down and there's a reason I haven't had either since (35+ years)

When I was something like 4 years old, I asked my mom for liver and spinach for my birthday dinner. I still love spinach, but I won't touch liver or any other innards either from any animal. Oddly though I liked braunschweiger alot, although the last time I ate it was many years ago. I've had pate as well and found it very nice.

Going back to liver, my mother used to make a liver casserole: ground beef liver, rice, and raisins. I know it might sound kinda gross, but it's a staple in Scandinavia. It's akin to a hot dog dinner in NA.

Eric, friend, I'm glad you have gotten to retire, but I've been noticing the threads you have started, and it just seems like you have a little too much time on your hands.
But since you asked, I love liver and onions. One of our family stories: My sister hates liver. My dad was in the army and we were transferred to La Rochelle, France, in 1957. We had driven all day, and were tired and hungery. We got to our hotel and went to the dining room for dinner. We ordered the plate de jour, a lovely piece of beef with gravy. You know the rest - my sister cut off a big piece, stuck it in her mouth..... |
