Wow... tough one. It's hard choosing when being a beer snob jerk at just 23 years old:
Belgian: Piraat or Delirium Nocturnum Belgian Style (not Belgium brewed): La Fin Du Monde (Unibroue Brewery, Canada) or Damnation (Russian River Brewery) IPA: Pliney the Elder or Blind Pig (same brewery - Russian River) Pale Ale: Stone Pale Ale (Stone Brewery) or Untouchable (Speakeasy Brewery) Hefeweizen: Paulaner (Germany) or Franziskaner (Germany) Lager: Abandon Ship (it's smoked in burning barrels - it picks up the mesquite burnt barrel taste) or Coney Island Lager (schmaltz brewery) Red Ale: Hop Head Red (greenflash brewery) Rye Ale: Red's Rye Ale (Founders brewery) Nut Brown Ale: screw Newcastle, that sucks, get this: Samuel Smith Nut Brown Ale (England) There's so many styles of beer that I can't just pick one as you can see. Even these were too tough to choose. I suggest printing out my last and taking it to your local beer snobbery distributor. Purchase the proper glass and never drink from the wrong one.. I'm such a jerk, haha.

When I was going through my IPA phase, I had a major addiction to Speakeasy Brewery's "Big Daddy" IPA. I highly recommend it. It even had 99 out of 100 points on the BevMo rating scale which is absolutely rare. I think it's their highest rated beer... also, the ones on my list are fantastic too.

The oldest (since 1834) Norwegian brewery Aass (pronounced aws) makes a very good draft beer of the pilsner (lager) type - probably my favorite ..... But I'm really more of a red wine guy ...

I don't wanna hijack this into a wine thread, but I just started getting into wine. I've kinda reached all corners of the earth with beer, so now I'm eager to learn about wine. I know that I like red wines, but do you have any suggestions for a good red wine? Preferably affordable.

Try some Côte du Rhône, Languedoc-Roussilion or (a little more expensive) Crozez Hermitage - all great south-east France districts. But I gotta say you have some very good wines yourself!(I'm thinking California). I guess we've already hijacked the thread - sorry everyone |

I'd sooner a Schooner!
Schooner is brewed by Oland's in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Flat-out? Yards IPA, great stuff. I'm a Hophead and this is my personal favorite fix.
Highly recommended: Yards does a series called "Beers of the revolution" or some such, but sadly, the best of the has gotten really hard to find around here--the Thomas Jefferson Tavern Ale. http://www.yardsbrewing.com/ales_tho...ons-tavern.asp I scored a 6-pack of Fordham Tavern Ale, from Annapolis, MD, and found it highly palatable for a mildly hopped brew. http://www.fordhambrewing.com/styles.html http://intercoursebrewingco.wordpress.com/ That logo rocks!!! "New Brewery" out of Lancaster county, though label says brewed in Wilkes-Barre. I've tried the Pale and the Pils, both quite palatable. Boy, this list could go on and on, but if I could only have one beer for the rest of my ride, it'd be that Yards IPA.

Commodore Perry from Great Lakes Brewery in Cleveland. It's a wonderful IPA with a dry citrusy finish. Yummmmmmm!

We have a world famous restaurant here called "McGuire's"---kind of a large Irish pub feel with incredible food. The original one is in Pensacola, and we have one here in Destin also.
They brew their own beer, and their wheatberry ale is mighty fine.

It would be easier for me to say which beers I don't like.
I don't care for a beer that doesn't taste like beer. Last year I found myself in Belgium -the brewing centre of the universe- and I've got to say that although there was many, many tasty beverages there, their idea of what passes for beer is somewhat ambiguous. I wound up drinking Jupiter, which is pretty close to a Canadian lager. At home I'll usually settle for Labatt's 50, (the telecaster of the beer world) and my local has Carlsberg on tap, which is good enough for me. I used to think that I had class/taste, and I've drank just about every type of beer I could get my hands on, but eventually familiarity wins out. |

Leinenkugels! Anything by them with the exception of Berry Weise.
Local company that was bought out by Miller a few years back, but they still let them do their own thing. Good beer.

When I was in England I drank nothing but Spitfire and the second I get back to London I'm heading to the nearest pub for a pint of it.
Around where I live the I'll usually drink India, an ale brewed by Molson only for the Newfoundland market (as far as I know). Best beer in town in brewed by a little microbrewery/pub/restaurant called Yellowbelly and they do a fantastic Stout (St. John's stout). You can buy it in glass jugs they call 'growlers' for the same price as an average six pack (same quantity too). |

I grew up near the Fuller's Brewery and it's now the only major brewer in London since Youngs left. You could smell them brewing the beer in the mornings while I went to school. In the summer I always go for their Honey Dew Ale. Best Summer Ale in the world!
And here is where I drink it! Best Pub in the world! THE CHURCHILL ARMS KENSINGTON! ![]() It's not Real Ale unless it is drunk in a Real Pub. Here is my local they usually are more of a guest ale place if you are luck you get something good, but there is always Timothy Taylor's Landlord, the best bottled Ale I know of. Paradise by Way of Kensal Rise. Here in west London we simply have the best pubs in the world, amazing!

My favorite beer was not an IPA, but Hooegarden Grand Cru- which apparently is no longer made. I like Mendicino Eye of The Hawk, Stone Oaked Arrogant Bastard, Anchor Old Foghorn, and the like for the US. Apart from United States brews, I can only drink UK or Belgium brews, with the exception of an occasional Ayinger Celebrator. It is true that the Uk has the best pubs in the world, though. |

Thanks Thorpey!
What a great "Thread" way to start off the great July 4th 'to hell with the business, pop open a beer,(the first of about 50 or so to be guzzled by Monday evening preferrably Buds or one of the other classic July 4th sud swizzeling classics) and get the barbeque stoked weekend. Like I said great topic...written in great taste...yet less filling as far as annoying serious content is concerned. As far as my opinion on the favourite beer thing is concerned...it would be any brew that takes the least amount of effort to get from the liquor store to my gut without any foolishment in between this afternoon and the sales meeting I have to run at 12:30 Tuesday Afternoon at my office. Cheers and see you guys at the Grill and Ice 'n Beer filled cooler...oh a word of warning! keep your hands out of the way and direct access between me, my cooler and my swill, till Monday evening about 7:00 pm EST time, or it's going to get bit off. All the best and Happy 4th no matter where the heck you're from or where the heck you live...enjoy this weekend... it is truly an international man's weekend that should be honored & shared by, and about the sacred relationship between a man, his Spatula, his grill, his 12 pak and his TV (TV IS OPTIONAL, except of course, if you have HD viewing and Satelite Programing features, then the tv IS mandatory) ....period! Power to the regular guys! Fire up the Webber and burn 'em up Deep, Long and Tastee! Oh by the way, what does this rant have to do with my favorite beer? Absolutely nothing! but some-things just have to be said, and damn it, I'm just the guy to do it! Happy 4TH All! Last edited by tele0053; July 3rd, 2009 at 01:57 PM. |

Heineken is a good all around beer, I enjoy it. I'm not very snobbish but I refuse to ingest anything with the title Coors, bud, miller, natural....unless its a game like beer pong or drunk ball. Guinness Draught is pretty good, Magic Hat is pretty nice, I've had some German beer called Optimater (sp) and it was great, very rich flavor, but like 11 bucks for a 4 pack in the states. other goodies like New Castle and Bass are good too. By the way my younger cousin brews his own IPA with a 6%-10% alc content and it is truly amazing.

like a sommelier pairs wine with food, i pair beer with my setting. so here's a few faves...
sitting in the driveway, grilling, listening to early who records loud enough to anger my neighbors: old milwaukee or pabst blue ribbon sporting even, preferably baseball or hockey, cubs or hawks: old style sitting down to a nice home cooked dinner with the wife: goose island 312 out at the pub with my buds, telling stories about the past, and in other words, re-inacting the boss' "glory days": pint of guiness i haven't found the perfect beer to go with playing jazz yet...i've been sticking to scotch there... one thing i've learned in life: good beer is good beer, whether it comes in an aluminum can or has a page long description of it's "hoppy aromas and chocolatey overtones."
