I am a Pacific Northwesterner, so:

Old Lompoc C Note
Hop Czar
Leafer Madness
Pelican IPA
Ninkasi Tricerahops

I like 'em when they strip the enamel from your teeth with BITTER...

Spotted Cow is wonderful! Can you get that in Nashville? I've only seen it in Milwaukee.

Leine's is my go to beer. Moderately priced and with a decent variety (except the fruity beer.)

Guinness, followed close on the heels by Moose Drool and Black Dog Porter. I don't drink 'em at gigs though, since it costs too much. (Even if the bar is buying for the band, I hate to be a pig) At jobs I usually drink Coors, or whatever they're serving from the keg.

I don’t have a favorite beer, but a favorite beer style. And it’s Barley Wine for me.

Strong, intense, “hit-you-over-the-head” and “knock-your-socks-off” ales always appealed to me. The very first beer I ever liked was an ale -- not a lager.

Barley Wine is the high-octane, black liquorice, intensely bitter beer that’s great in fall and winter. Rogue’s “Old Crusty” (11.2%) is about the best I’ve had, although Sierra Nevada’s “Bigfoot” (9.6%) is pretty close.

I also enjoy IPAs, especially in the summer. Anderson Valley’s “Hop Ottin’ IPA” (7%) is among the best I’ve had in a bottle.

Most memorable beer is the insanely strong Dogfish Head “120 Minute IPA.” 20% and around $10 per 12 oz. bottle.

One of my fantasies is to take these beers to Europe and let the Europeans who laugh at American beers sample the best beer in the world.

With all due respect to Guinness lovers, and I'm one too, but I think the best stout on the planet is Murphy's Stout from Cork. Although, we have a killer one being made locally now at the Yellow Belly brew-pub.

Pretty much anything from the Deschutes Brewery is excellent and either or near the top of any of my categories.

Guinness, of course.
Many if not all of the Pike Brewing Co beers are great. The XXX stout and Barleywine are awesome.
El Jefe is a great one from Hale's Ales Brewery is great one.
I like a lot of the Rogue Brewery beers as well.
The New Belgium offerings are great.

There are soooo many.

I'm spoiled, I work at two stores, both of which have a several thousand wines, one has liquor, and the other has 400 different beers. And I get a discount. I'm living large, but I've had 3 different livers already and its starting to get a bit out of hand.

A variety of dark imported (not micro) beers.

All time favorite, sitting in Europe drinking dark beer without preservatives-or any associated taste. Strange thing though, the tendency in pubs or beer halls overseas is often that people sit at the next table and act friendly- rather than going off in a corner as if you're a stranger. How refreshing!

Some excellent suggestions here! My favorite is one that hasn't been mentioned yet: Pauwel Kwak, from Belgium. It's excellent, and unique as well. My cousin turned me on to it, after he took a trip to Belgium. Might be unobtanium in most areas; on Long island I know you can get it at Shoreline Beverages in Huntington and De Mar in East Northport.

I have a friend.

My friend can't drink any mainstream American Beer. Nope, no pilseners for him. He can't even swallow them they taste so bad to him. He says that they burn his tongue and throat.

He will only drink Guinness.

Of course, this is just my friend, who is 21. Not me.

Lerb - tell your "friend" that Guinness is a sipping beer. Thats also strange. I figured anyone who like Guinness would definately be beer lover.

This one:

23L Batch
1.5kg Coopers Light Malt
1.5kg Morgans Amber Malt
350g Steeped Carapils
200g Steeped Caramalt
25g Pacific Gem @ 60min
25g B Saaz @ 15min
15g D Saaz @ 0min
S-04 Yeast @ 20 degrees C

Tastes like heaven. And costs a quarter of beer at the store.

If the frat boys like it, I most likely will hate it. Large brewery anything is all terrible and I gave them a fair shot... it's all so bland and flavorless. Budweiser's new American Ale is almost tolerable to drink, but still, it's probably 10,000th down the list of beers I'd prefer to drink.

There's just no heart in their brewing process.. there's no skill to it or anything. Real brewing is done in small batches by passionate people... not by computer monitored gigantic distilleries.

A finely poured pint of Guinness is an eternal thing of beauty ;)

Another shout here for Adnams Broadside.

For a real hoppy bitter ziiing I can hugely reccomend:
HopBack Summer Lighning.

So refreshing - a quenching gulp will shake your head off!
(and a few more will procede to lose it somwhere where you then cant find it ;) )

every time i drink an excellent dark microbrew, it becomes my favorite for the duration of that round. sometimes for that whole night!

but at home, it's always Yuengling — not a superb beer, but a dang good beer at a superb price!
