Jazzmaster case
I'm pretty set on a Classic Player Jazzmaster. Have played a friend's several times. Lovely guitar. Probably going to go ahead and order one soon.
Trouble is, I don't want to shell out on the (very expensive) Fender Jazzmaster case...it's $175..! I was wondering which cases other Jazzmaster / Jaguar players use. I was thinking of ordering a Gator bass case along with the Jazzmaster, (it's $89) http://www.gatorcases.com/productsmo...2&PID=7&MID=27 The lower bout of this case is listed as 13.625", so the only problem I can foresee is an extra few inches beyond the headstock. Is this a good course of action? |

I have had a CP Jag for about seven months now, and have only used the gig bag it comes with. It is fine, no different than the standard gig bags that Fender guitars come in normally (though not sure of the size). Then, I am not playing out, but the big square Fender case is heavy and doesn't fit ANYWHERE. If they made one of those form-contoured plastic SBK-like cases, I would think that just about perfect.

I bought a used CP jag and it didn't even have the gig bag! So I got tired of looking around to find something that fit and went into GC. I walked up to the kid behind the counter and told him I wanted the Fender Jag/Jazz case. He pulls it up on the computer and says $99. I said really? He said "yup". I said the G&G case? He said "yup". I said "can I use this 10% coupon?" He said "yup".
2 weeks later I get a call that it came in. Went in there totally unsure of what I was going to find, and it was the same case that came with my AVRI jag. So the point is walk into a Guitar Center, wait for a kid to be behind the computer (shouldn't take long |

Seriously though, a big favor to ask... If anyone has a CP Jazzmaster and could measure the maximum width of the body and also the total length of the instrument from strap button to tip of the headstock, then I'd be very grateful...! Thanks. |

Okay, after "attempting" to measure it, I realized that the wonky ass body shape makes measuring the body useless for picking out a case... So I measured the case
The safest thing would be a rectangular case with a width of about 13 3/8ths. Length-wise you need about 40 3/4 inches. If the unobstructed body area before the neck support/accessory box was at least 20 1/4 inches that would great. They rattle around pretty good in the official fender case, so I gave you what looks like minimum measurements, not the actual case measurements. If you don't want to go rectangular I know a few folks who have managed scary perfect fits in Bass cases. Though you'd need the guitar in hand for to pick one out. |

There is a music store in WI that sells them on Ebay, Barry Clark Music in Tomah, WI for like $69 plus shipping, and they look fair online, but haven't seen one in person.
I bought the display model black CP JM last nite at GC for $700, after I realized the film was still on the pick guard and that when taken off there would be no marks. I know their Luthier well as he services my other guitars, and also got a free setup with new 10s. I bit the bullet and bought a Fender case. I've been playing semi hollow jazz/blues 55 years through BF amps, never played a JM until last night, and was gassed by tones from pups and electronics, plenty of sustain, and great bass/neck pup tones. Nice neck, butter action, etc. |

Those CP's are nice Jags. I played them and the Jag HH (kill switch instead of rhythm) for comparison, and chose the JM for its single coils that are different to me than strats/teles. I have big hands, so JM neck is more comfortable. I found both CP Jags and JM are different than any other "blues" Fenders I've ever heard. Big six string chords, 7ths with 7th added, minor ninths, 13ths sounded full, fat and wonderful on bass pup, and I never could get that sound with a strat, always too bright for me. These CP's are cool. I been around long time and even back then I preferred the 3 Kings to the Ventures, so it's like you said, it's not what you eat it's how you chew it.

I found that Rondo sells a Jaguar case for $55.00. May not fit a Jazz as Jazz may be longer, have to check Fender for dimensions.

I had to come up with a hard case for a jaguar on short notice last year, I found that a Fender Jazz bass case worked well enough that the guitar survived 2 American Airlines and 2 Northwest flights. The only thing was the scale length being so short on a jag, I had to cut the case foam at the headstock some to clear it, but with a jazzmaster, it may fit better.

The bass case which supposedly works with a Jazzmaster is at Rondo at http://www.rondomusic.com/220case.html. Interior Dimenstions are 14" wide by 46" long. Size of cavity for body is 14" x 21". Jazzmaster case dimensions are 41 1/2 inches by 14 inches Looks like Rondo case will fit.

Right now, my J. Mascis Jazzmaster is in a Coffin bass case. Works well.
If you try enough generic, rectangular cases, you might find something that fits. If someone wants actual inside measurements of the case that comes with an AVRI Jazzmaster, let me know, and I'll break out the tape measure.

I bought a Rockcase that fits nicely. It is decent quality, not super. But it does the job at a good price.
I found it a ballewsmusic.com, but it doesn't look like they have them now. Here is a link to a UK store that has them. http://www.banzaieffects.com/RockCas...-pr-13326.html |

I have a Jagmaster and a Maldan Mozak (ash tray Tele configuration on a Jazzmaster body) and I store both guitars in the better grade Guitar center Road Runner bag. The bags are 40 dollars and they are twice as heavy as a Fender bag and they fit a Jazzmaster to perfection. Look for the better Road Runner bag that allows you to zip the shoulder staps into a rear compartment where they can hide. Great bags.....I used to keep my Gretsch in the same bag

The interior dimensions for RockCase for bass by Warwick Universal is Length : 46-1/2 in. Height : 14-5/16 in. and Width : 2-7/8 in., so the height (which is JM width) works. Online price is $79.95. Coffin bass case seems to be $129, so looks like RockCase is most reliable bet, as it is returnable, and Rondo is not. his seems to be best priced option of all.

Link to the Road Runner Bag that fits a Jazzmaster - $39.95
Guitar Center has one of their 15% off one item coupons online for 4th of July weekend....you would only pay $34 with the coupon FYI. Here's one of mine....check the fit. I keep the Maldan Mozak in the same bag and I used to jeep my Gretsch Double Jet in the same bag. Nice bag. ![]() ![]() ![]() It's a sleek bag when you zip the shoulder strap into the back compartment and the straps provide more back padding. John
