Man, that's one beautiful kid - whatever drove him to "improve" his looks I'll never understand. Poor guy - too bad he never found peace in his life.

Man, I don't get this "Off the Wall" and "Thriller" stuff as being when people put MJ on a high pedestal. I had him there in 1970 when I was 10.

I have a mint 1982 pressing of "Thriller", and wow, they're going for a hundred + on ebay right now... maybe I should cash in, it'll never get better than what they're going for now.

This is strange: I was playing "Thriller" (The Album that is) all day because it's both an excelent album and because it's a childhood memory.

"Thriller" in my opinion was flawless, not a single track on that album that was filler, Jackson and Quincy Jones were on top of their game.

I predict mass hysteria on his passing but as a reminder on how good he was...

He was never my cup of tea, but a major talent for sure. Also another example of how stardom, when thrust upon young kids, can just mess up their whole lives.

Thriller is an amazing album.. I never thought I'd like music like that, but I swiped it out of my Dad's collection years ago, and it's great.

My wife and I are still in shock. Despite everything, he had quite an impact on me musically as a kid. Thriller was our first tape we ever bought and I still have mine.

RIP

He's never been confirmed to molest children or anything, for all we know, he could've been an easy target for these kids and parents to go after for his money. I'm just saying, no jury ever convicted him, and we can't be judge and jury unless the government gives us that right.

Well to answer that, here's an essay I made on the album that followed "Thriller" and preceeded "Bad" from my personal blog.

Quote:
I bought the 25'th anniversary edition of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and was instantly reminded why this album has become such a classic. Stellar songwriting, stellar production, stellar musicianship and hooks big enough to haul in a blue whale. It just will NEVER sound dated, not matter at what point in time you put it on.

The ironic thing is that the very year after Michael Jackson's "Thriller" was released, Jackson also was involved in something that sounds EXTREMELY dated. The Jacksons' album "Victory"

The very sound of this album just screamed "Eighties" and to be precise "BAD eighties" with the gated overall sound, synth bass and "Bad quack" guitar sound. The Jacksons knew how to do it, their previous albums "Destiny" and "Triumph" were inspired efforts, with good songs, good production and an audible enthusiasm that just whipped one in the face.

So what went wrong? First of all with Michael's "Thriller" having been released only a year prior and it doing so enormously well, it was too hard to follow, Michael himself didn't have much to bring forwards with new songs since most of it was already used. And perhaps the biggest factor of all, his brothers wanted a piece of the action and so all of the other Jackson brothers sang lead on at least one or two tracks. Not really surprising was the fact that the ones that Michael sung were the best of the album.

If anything, this proved to Michael that he was better off without his brothers and his next release "Bad" also proved that for the rest of the world. When the Jacksons released the follow up: "2300 Jackson street" both Michael and Marlon were out of the band.

I am a bit sad that the dialogue in this thread is so far below the normal discourse in this forum. Reminds me of Myspace Forums - where this kind of negative discussion is the norm. (smiley face omited intentionally)

frankie lymon and michael jackson where the supremely funkiest kids of all time... talent and soul to spare... how anyone with any affinity for music could question jackson's talent is beyond me... RIP MJ... tj

Oh he could compose music alright, just listen to THIS...

He played the Rhoads and percussion on this and also did all the voices. It sounds good enough to be released as it is.
