If it's true, that is sad. I was never a fan, but he was undeniably very talented and made a lot of people happy. You watch, though, the battle over his money will be epic. Sad but true.

Time to dust off the "Thriller" record and give it a good spin, and remember..... when he was good.

Let's remember him the way that he'd probably like to be remembered:

i really loved his early music. "Billie Jean" is one of the greatest pop songs ever put to tape. i don't know if he ever did anything worthwhile after that or not.

Reports: Michael Jackson Is Dead
By The New York Times

This post is written by Brooks Barnes in Los Angeles and Ben Sisario and Brian Stelter in New York.

Music Memorials | 6:38 p.m. Expect a number of Jackson music marathons in the days to come. per Stuart Elliott: WCBS-FM, the oldies station in New York, is broadcasting some of Mr. Jackson’s greatest hits. The station said it would have special programming later in the day.

Reaction | 6:37 p.m. Television news images showed large crowds gathering outside the UCLA Medical Center. “People are already showing up in costume, believe it or not,” said a Fox News correspondent, Trace Gallagher, comparing it to the circus he witnessed during a trial involving Mr. Jackson.

More Reports | 6:29 p.m. “A lot will be said about Michael Jackson as we learn more about this story,” Brian Williams said on the “NBC Nightly News.”

“He was incredibly talented, a child star who was an adult with deep troubles and physical and mental health issues.”

The reports of Mr. Jackson’s death ricocheted around the world with remarkable speed. The news led Friday morning newscasts in Japan.
It's true
RIP

Whoa weird! I just picked up Thriller from the library on Saturday and was having a preteen flashback listening to that album. EVH on Beat It, the video release of Thriller on MTV, Quincy Jones producing, guests by Paul McCartney and Vincent Price, the white glove, moonwalk, the background dancers, all of it was such a pivotal point for the music industry. Pop music (hate it or not) was changed for ever when Thriller was dropped.

A sad day for a super talented guy. He had his issues and didn't deal with them in an normal way but wow, what a catalog he left behind for all of us.

This thread is giving me visions of people standing around his bed with sticks poking at him to see what happens.

Whatever weird caricature he ended up as, he started and made rather good headway as a formidable talent... I'll certainly continue to miss that part of him, just as I have for the last couple decades.

Didn't see that one coming.

He certainly was a major influence in pop music.

That is terrible news. The Seeds were an excellent band - always loved "Pushin Too Hard".

Rest in Peace, Sky Saxon.
