No Tele content, but worth a shot to save a life

A close friend of my brother & his family is in dire need of an immediate (within 48hrs) lung transplant. She is a 42 year old mother of five (ages 3 to 14), who has spent most of her life fighting leukemia and other related illnesses. She has always made remarkable recoveries, but this time the prognosis is none too bright without the necessary operation. She is currently at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and her name is Nava Ketlowitz. She is already listed on the appropriate organ recipient registries.

I know that this is a strange thing to ask, but if anyone becomes aware of a situation where these organs might become available, please contact me at any time at 631 225-8762.

Thanks, and if this post is inappropriate I apologize and of course will understand if our Webmaster removes it. Just thought this might be a good way to have our "family" make a difference in someone elses.

Usually there are national registries wherein everything is kept anonymous. Individuals are ranked as to their need and the highest-ranked, compatible recipient is selected to receive available organs.

I'm not aware of anything that one can do to improve their chances of being a recipient.

I do hope that she receives an organ.

we should pray for her. It is a very underrated and powerful thing. What is her name? (you can email me if you don't want to give it out - timspong@mris.com)

Ian, Here's hoping she gets what she needs in time. My wife's nephew died in an accident a couple of years ago, and his mother (Amy's sister) gets an indescribable feeling knowing that he lives on in others.

lung transplant

first i hope your wife receives her lungs soon. my wife had a 2 lung transplant 18 months ago. it is a terrible thing to watch someone you love suffer. that said, there is no way to beat the system, you are on a waiting list, both national and regional. keep you house clean, dont smoke around her, and keep a very close eye on her health, react quickly to colds, flue, etc. encourage everyone you know to donate organs! there is a horrible shortage of organs due to the fact that most people are unaware of the dire need. my wife had to wait 3 yrs. after getting on the list, and i almost lost her to an infection, learn to enjoy every single second you get to spend with her, life is so fragile and very very short. i know there is no comfort in waiting, but learn all you can, listen to your doctor, and pray. peace man. i am rooting for you and your family.

My wife wanted her organs donated after she passed. She had the sticker on the back of her drivers license and everything. I just called my mother in law to find out if that had indeed been honored. Sadly, it hadn't. She said that if she would've been sent to the hospital, and the family gave their approval, it would've been honored, but she never went to the hospital, as she was already dead when I found her. I'm so sorry. The only thing that I can offer is much prayers and positive thoughts her way. I've seen major miracles happen as a result of the power of prayer amongst the praying people on this board.
