I like it down here. It's mostly quiet after 6pm when all the government workers head back to the East Side.

I enjoy strolling through Presidio Park over to Congress on a Saturday morning, gettting my magazine fix at The Crescent Smoke Shop, a browse through The Chicago Store (though I hit Rainbow when I'm serious about buying), some lunch at The Grill and a few brews in The Red Room.

The Wood Close Up

What your looking at is a section of two long planks of Canary wood on each side of the yardage stick. I tried to frame it up in neck-long sections.

It takes some imagination. But I think I see some guitar necks in there.

Sounds like a lovely morning. Seriously.

Bridge Close Up

For those of you that double on upright, I can highly recommend the Corelli tungsten wrapped / steel core strings. I got a new set from Southwest Strings in Tucson when I did the new setup after this repair. They are way easier on the fingers and have much better tone than my old "Red Label" strings. I made the "Peg Leg" end pin out of an old table leg and a white cane tip.

When I reset the action and cut new slots for the lighter gauge strings I made feet for the old bridge out of ironwood. Ironwood grows in the Sonoran Desert where mesquite grows, and has sometimes been cut down and sold as BBQ wood with the mesquite. I can't image how the wood cutters could not know what they were doing. The ironwood would be so much harder on their tools. The heavy dense ironwood seemed to improve sustain and volume.

This post is a re-run. It just bugged me that the image of the bridge close up was broken.

That upright looks sweet! Big repair, but uprights are darn cool!

Plans for the canary wood

Making snail like progress. But as they say "baby steps". I finally got some inspiration from the "Headstock Templates" thread and drew this neck pattern by hand with one of the gaudier headstocks pasted on (apologies to JWells and other purists).

That's all I got for now.

Great thread, very interesting!
