Big John and Dave do "Wichita Lineman"

Our own "Big John" Stannard and his steel playing mate David Hartley recorded this phenomenal instrumental version of "Wichita Lineman" - one of both Johns and my favorite songs ever ..... These guys belong up there with the best of them! Enjoy!

B.J. and Dave are a match made in heaven.
What gets me is the relaxed "anyone can do this" look. Anyone but me !!

One of my favorite all-time songs! Very nice job. Smooth as satin.

My father in law was a lineman in rural Indiana. Died at 53....that song has always been special to the family. Thanks fellas!

That is balm for the roughed-up soul.

I now have this in my mind and find myself singing out loud to it, even when I'm not listening to it.

In fact, this may be the cure to the crappy jingles you hear on the radio/TV that stick with you.

I love it, played it 5 times in a row! Only thing I don't like is the very high pitch shrill/whistle note that appears a few times; almost like it's keeping time.

Anybody know what tuning the steel is in?

I'm very glad you liked it folks.

John e-mailed me the link after I'd sent him a link to another version of the song. I got John's permission to post it here.

My guess is that it's symbolizing the electric singing in the wire ...

Spot on Tmarkman !!

MickM, the steel is a Rains with just regular E9th tho' i think Dave has one or two different raises within that.

Getbent, yes, play, play, play, they are such great sounding chords, it's a joy to do it !
