Big John and Dave do "Wichita Lineman"
Our own "Big John" Stannard and his steel playing mate David Hartley recorded this phenomenal instrumental version of "Wichita Lineman" - one of both Johns and my favorite songs ever ..... These guys belong up there with the best of them!

One of my favorite all-time songs! Very nice job. Smooth as satin.
My father in law was a lineman in rural Indiana. Died at 53....that song has always been special to the family. Thanks fellas!

I love it, played it 5 times in a row! Only thing I don't like is the very high pitch shrill/whistle note that appears a few times; almost like it's keeping time.
Anybody know what tuning the steel is in? |

I'm very glad you liked it folks.
John e-mailed me the link after I'd sent him a link to another version of the song. I got John's permission to post it here. Quote:

MickM, the steel is a Rains with just regular E9th tho' i think Dave has one or two different raises within that. Getbent, yes, play, play, play, they are such great sounding chords, it's a joy to do it !
