Twang and reverb in Denver: surf and rockabilly

Friday, Feb. 6, 9 pm, McDonough's Pub in Aurora (on 10395 E. Iliff, by Havana). The Royal Aces will be playing classic and modern surf/instro rock, and the Redline Rockets will play outstanding rockabilly (the Rockets just performed on the main stage at the huge 50th "Winter Dance Party" at the legendary Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa).

As I tend to post just about anytime anyone mentions Colorado, wish I could make it!

I am up in FoCo...maybe we should try to have a TDPRI get together...it sounds like a pretty cool concert. How much are tickets?

And I wish you other folks were here in Colorado, too.
Admission is just $5 at the door...
Thanks.

Sounds good...

And at least it's supposed to be very mild weather that day, so you don't have to slog through snow in order to get to the pub...

Come up and say hello...

If anyone with a TDPRI connection does stop by at this Fender twangfest Friday night, please be sure to come up and say hello! I'm the grey-haired guitar guy in the surf band...I wanted to say "prematurely grey" but I'm beyond the point where that excuse can be used!

Maybe I'm missing the joke, but Aurora is at least 300 miles from New Mexico.

fenderfan, your music is right up my alley. Too bad I have to be home in "fatherhood prison" tending to two crying babies or I'd come see you.

Best of luck at your show.

He's obviously from one of the northern suburbs!

No problem, Honga...

I spent many years doing those same fatherly duties, so I certainly understand. We have some more dates coming up which I'll mention here on the good old TDPRI, so maybe one of those will work out for you.

I'm still laughing about the "what does someone drive on their second trip to Colorado? ...a U-Haul" joke from another thread. If I sweet talk my husband into moving there (I keep trying!) we'll be driving a huge U-Haul and then making every single one of your gigs if you promise to make a few of ours! :-)

Seriously,we Metro area/Front Range folks should keep on trying to make contact on one of Fenderfan's gigs and make it a TDPRI meet'n'greet.Sorry to hijack a national forum for talk of hometown doings, but it'd be uber-cool to meet the local gang in person.Maybe Myekel and I can introduce our brownface Princetons to each other!
I'll be there. It's almost down the street for me.

Envy...

Two brownface Princetons....I'm too jealous now. You guys can just stay home! (ok, I take it back...)
Here are the gear geek details for tonight: A 2x10 Bandmaster Reverb in a Crusty Cabs cabinet, assembled and re-wired by Phat Tele, and a Music Man 1x12 (my delay pedal has two "out" jacks, so I can send cords to both amps), and a sunburst beauty Rob DiStefano Strat.

Ah, the Toad...

I have played there before and had a lot of fun. I have not seen since the re-model though. Have a good night over there!

We really need to do a TDPRI get together soon. There's a lot more of us now then there was at the one we had out in Ault ten years ago!

Me too. I have been trying to move to Colorado since 1972. I have lived in New Mexico, Oklahoma and Kansas. All around but not quite in the Colorful State. My brother who does live in Colorado jokes that I can be buried in Colorado when I die with a tomb stone that says "FINALLY".

Mandy, I too have tried convincing, sweet talking, using power point presentations, extortion, bribery to get my wife to move to Colorado. No luck so far. Do you have pointers? Not that your tactics have been successful either. hahaha

I was living out there at the time, in a former church a friend of ours was turning into an AWESOME house.

We had lot of fun (lotta trainwrecks, and I don't mean the amps!), then went to the little Mexican restaurant downtown (gotta love a one-block "downtown"!) and had a nice meal...

I was born and raised, and now live in SW Colorado near Durango and Telluride. I consider myself very fortunate to live here. Check with me tomorrow after the storm blows in.

Yeah, Aults a quaint little town. I run through there 4 or 5 times a month either on my way to Sterling or sometimes I come down 85 from Cheyenne. Was last through there a week ago. I just always chuckle at the beet and bean silo there... I'm sure in its heyday it was a thriving community.

Hey I should mention this here...there is a pretty sweet blues jam in Greeley on Thursday nights starting around 8 and usually going till 11 or midnight. I try to go every week. I play bass but I know they would be happy to have some teles swarm the stage! I am in Fort Collins so if anyone ever wants to share a ride I have room in my sedan! It has been really fun for me...players of all skill levels!
