Brenda Lee

HELP!!! My musical tastes are changing, randomly and uncontrollably.

All I did was look up "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" on YouTube. And I couldn't stop... now I'm on a Brenda Lee kick.

I don't get it. Too weird. I gotta go. I gotta go to the store, and find a Brenda Lee CD...

I haven't listened to a lot of her other music, but I really like her voice and that version of "Rockin Around The Christmas Tree" is my all-time favorite Christmas song.

i feel you. same thing happened to me.

she is considered by many to be a rockabilly pioneer.

you don't usually think of her in the same vein as young elvis , but once you do and go back and listen, you learn stuff about the whole vibe that you can use.

I listened to "Bigelow 6-200" the other day.
Red hot, with Grady Martin smoking on guitar.
She was still "Little" Brenda Lee then.

Just about the same time as "Little Stevie Wonder!"

I bought her two disc anthology series several years ago... contains most of the early hits (minus a few flip sides that made the Billboard charts) on up to the 70s country hits like "Big Four Poster Bed." A great singer, augmented by top-notch Nashville production. One of my faves is "That's All You Gotta Do," written by Jerry Reed; with "I'm Sorry," it was a two-sided hit in 1960.

Mmm ... this takes me back...

"Little Miss Dynamite" with hits like "Sweet Nothin's", "I'm Sorry" and "My Whole World Is Fallin' Down", had that extra power in her voice.

If my memory serves me right (it does happen you know ...) four young lads from Liverpool called The Beatles opened for her on one of her first UK-tours.

The very first concert I went to was in 1964 or 1965 was to see Brenda Lee in Natchitoches Louisiana. I was just a plain ole simple 11 or 12 year old and got to go to a concert like that with the biggest plus being that she sang sweet nothin's and wanted someone from the audience to come up on stage with her while she sang it to them and I was the one picked, I almost peed in my pants, got to hold her hand and get a pic with her and autograph and everything, and I thought I was in Heaven. It was great and I have listened to Brenda ever since then.

One Question... Who did the 2 note guitar on that rockin' round the Christmas tree ? Could it have been Hank Garland? Jack ?.., TJ ?... ,Mark ? ....Maybe we should forget about the latter {after reading about that motorcycle charade,I just don't know if we can trust his judgement !] ....hee-hee !

Hmmm.....Can anyone think of another rock and roll babe 10-15 years later, who also had THE look of the day,and a voice that would melt your heart while it burned you down-and who also put some country into her rock and roll?
Brenda Lee should have done some stuff with Buck Owens& the Buckaroos(the Ventures, too);Linda Ronstadt should have done something with Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I used to have a double album of her greatest hits on cassette. I loved it. My buddies hated that I loved it...

Wow, you should get in on Bucko's thread about a brush with fame. That is a cool story...,seriously. (I am amazed at how many almost-famous people are on this forum.)

Don't forget "Is It True" with a young Jimmy Page playing guitar.

Yikes!! I had no idea ... it happened to me, too - I checked out one of the youtube links, then I couldn't stop. Did you catch the one with young Sir Paul judging a Brenda Lee lookalike contest?

I'm off to Rhapsody, thanks for the tip ...

I'll always remember the obscene Christmas song:

"...later we'll have some f*&^(*) pie,
and we'll do some carolling..."

(One of those "mis-heard" lyrics...since I "heard" it that way, it has consistently cracked me up!)

i figure, ok the fire is hot so they got naked and worked up a sweat.

it's not brenda lee but it is johnny mathis. how's THAT for a visual?

I posted that as my all time Christmas fave song on a thread here. If I had anything to do with your search that makes me feel good; if I didn't, it still makes me feel good!
She does my fave version of "Always on My Mind" as well; you will never hear Elvis and Willies versions in the same way again.
Fool #1 is another all time CLASSIC! Go get the greatest CD, but don't overlook her later country stuff either.

I hear Brenda Lee will receive a Lifetime Achievement award at the GRAMMYs in February. Well deserved.
