Do you still 'Name' your guitars?
Do you still have a 'pet name' for your guitar?
And is it transferrable? I'll kick off, my AmSeries is called Lutine (a female imp amongst other meanings). |

I didn't for the longest time, figuring that
a) they already had names, like Tele, LP, etc. b) they wouldn't come running even if I yelled at them, so why bother But I decided to christen my main workers a few years back. The Tele is called Mona, and I'm still working on a name for my recently gold-sparkled Hamer. It was formerly known as Black Betty, but I'm leaning towards Whoopee. The Larrivée is cleverly referred to as Larrivée. The other acoustics and Strats remain nameless. |

Wel, the real Telzilla is a modified MIM James Burton, but I probably call it "the tele" more than "TelZilla".
Other than that, no.

i don't name them unless the club i am playing in catches fire and i run back in to rescue my guitar and find out later what the lady's name is that started the fight which led to the fire in the first place.
i just think of them as companions on the road to hell. |

Oddly, while I have been known to name cars and motorcycles, it has never occurred to me to name guitars. I wonder why?

I bumped into an old playing friend who I hadn't seen for ten years and when he asked "How's Marilyn?" and I had to tell him that she'd had surgery and had gone from blonde to green and had a new neck cos I treated her so rough.
We got some strange looks from other people in the pub. |

Absolutely yes, I still name my instruments (I also name my computers - I'm typing this from Hannelore right now!).
Bubbles - Fender Cyclone w/SD Invader and Dial-a-tap wiring Mina - Schecter C/SH-1 Semi-hollow Jane - Danelectro DC59 RI Caitlin - Oscar Schmidt OE-30 w/Kent Armstrong P-90 and GFS Retrotron Nashville Daphne - Squier Bullet w/GFS Texas Alnicos Heather - Yamaha SBV500 Bass Ilse - my ol' Strativarious copy Violin And I just got a new Strat a few days ago that I haven't gotten around to naming yet (I'm considering Esme, from one of my favorite Salinger stories). I've been considering starting a thread asking for help on that :) I always name my instruments, and I tend to name them after strong female characters (not always though). I mostly cite two reasons: 1) In the military, it used to be customary to name your rifle. In a way, I like to think of it as officially declaring my guitars my "weapons" of choice. 2) I've always found the plight of women to be most inspiring. Ironically, in most significant social movements fighting for civil equality, women still had a hard time achieving positions of power in these movements. That's a whole 'nother discussion, though. |

I don't have to GIVE them names, they'll TELL me what their names are when they're ready.

nope, never have
But I only have one Tele (a '63 that I've had for 35+ years), so it's just "my Tele" I have several other guitars, but they're all different, so I just call them by the manufacturer or model (the Carvin, the 12-string, the Strat, the Washburn, etc.) pretty boring, I know... Cheers, Doug |

Although I did have a buddy many years ago that named his classical "Sweetheart." He had been engaged and subsequently dumped twice when he bought the guitar, and picked the moniker "Sweetheart" because, in his words, "I figure she's the only thing of that shape that I'm ever gonna get my arms around!"

My boa's named Annabel (mom named her while watching a Corman EA Poe adaptation). Good names just suggest themselves, if they come at all. |
