Brent Mason made my daughter's day!! Thanks Brent.

Here's a neat story about Brent Mason showing what a nice guy he is.

He played at a small guitar show in Mt. Vernon, IL yesterday. I was more than pleased when my 9 year old daughter, Madison, asked me if she could go with me to watch Brent play. She even skipped an event with some other kids to go with me. She also wouldn't let me leave the house without bringing the Smokin' Section cd for him to sign.

When Brent arrived at the show, we spent some time speaking with him and got a pic and autograph. She was pretty excited after Brent told her he was going to play Hot Wired, which is a frequent selection of hers on her iPod. A little later, we also had the pleasure of meeting Julie and their daughter.

During the show, before he played Hot Wired, Brent said that it was "going out to Madison, a young guitarist in the crowd." She was very thrilled and spent much of the night on the phone telling the rest of the family about it. She told me when Brent gave her a shout out, she was so nervous, her legs were shaking.

It was great to be able to go to a show with my 9 year old, where both of us could enjoy watching a such a talented player as Brent. The experience was a great little father/daughter moment.

If Brent or Julie reads this, thanks for being so polite and for a great performance.

Kenny C.

Very cool, something she'll never forget! What a great Father/Daugter moment!

My 11 year daughter and I won free tickets and a backstage pass to Simple Plan for buying a cel phone, the meet and great at the sound check blew me away, they were so down to earth and friendly and each of them took the time to chat with each of us. My daughter was nearly ready to burst from excitement!

Hey, Madison has great taste! Congrats to both of you!
It's funny.... with the advent of the internet, people are only too quick to post if someone famous is having a bad day, or puts on a bad show. And, let's face it, EVERYBODY had bad days and the occasional 'off' show.
I don't think I've EVER read an anecdote about Brent where he wasn't a nice guy and a gentleman. Sometimes nice guys DO finish first!

No disrespect to Brent but it seems Madison was the star at that guitar show.
Congratulations.

I have two things to say:

I hope that if I have kids, they're that cool at nine years old. And cheers to Brent, sounds like a hell of a guy.

That's really a wonderful thing to read! Thanks for posting it.

Not a big surprise to me, though, as Brent and Julie have consistently been such good folks, and "real people".

Cheers, Tim

Sounds like he's as awesome a guy as he is a monster player. Great story. I like your daughter's iPod selections, too.

After hearing a few stories like this, and reading about the Sol Philcox journey, I believe that Brent is one of the top class acts out there.

Agree - great story, your daughter has great taste and Brent sounds like a great guy.

Had a similar experience taking my kids to see The Bobs { http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bobs }. They were fans before and now even more so, and also more so in regard to music and to live music in general. It takes just as long to be kind and considerate as it does to be an a--hole.

Yet another story of a great experience with Brent Mason. We're so privileged to have such wonderful folks playing Teles and posting here...Even the famous ones! Kudos to Brent for being a guitar hero, and staying human.

So nice to hear these stories.

I'm glad you all liked the story. I couldn't resist sharing that one. It was really great sitting there with my daughter, knowing she was having as good a time as I was. Every once in a while, a person is fortunate enough to get one of those moments that makes a lasting memory. That was ours.

We all know how incredible Brent Mason is as a guitar player, but I must say he is an even better human being.

Just a great, humble, down to earth, overall good spirited person. The kind of person you can't imagine anyone not liking or getting along with.

take care,
Robbie

Hi Kenny (and Madison!)

Wow, thanks so much for all the nice things you say in your post. Brent is so glad that you guys had a great time at the show and that he made Madison happy. You know, it isn't often that a girl of her age comes to see him play so it definitely made an impact on him. We got home yesterday afternoon and when I checked my personal email a friend of mine had linked this thread for me to read and I showed it to Brent right away.

It is very humbling when you realize that something you did like dedicate a song or sign an autograph and pose for a photograph and have some conversation can impact other people that you meet so strongly. Brent is naturally a very nice, patient and kind person so that is just him. But how wonderful to just go around being yourself and finding out that you made a great memory for a dad and his daughter. That is really a special thing. Thanks so much again for this post Kenny. You tell Madison that Brent said "Hi!! and thanks!"

blue water girl,

It is truly the coolest thing to me that Madison and I share some of the same guitar heroes. Thanks again to you and Brent for taking time out to talk with us. Madison will be absolutely thrilled when she reads your post.

I was one of the performers at the Southern Ill. Steel Guitar Clubs 1st six string Guitar Festival in Mt. Vernon. A great bunch of people. I was standing off to the side of the stage when Brent introduced Madison. I know she was elated. For the level of talent Brent has, he is one of the most humble guys I have met in this business. It is very easy to let fame go to your head but not with Brent. I watched him and he treated everyone the same. I had a couple of nice conversations with him that day and he was very nice to me. I want to add that Andy Reiss is also one of my hero's and also a very humble guy and a fantastic musician. Earl Erb

Nashville Tele Player,

I didn't get there until about 2:45 on Sat. Were you on the 2:20 slot labeled "Special Guest not yet confirmed"? If so, nice job. I was only able to stay until after Brent Mason and Doug Jernigan's 1st set, because I had to go to work. Everyone I heard was great.

It doesn't surprise me that Brent was kind enough to give Madison a shout out. He is class all the way, as is his wife.

Thanks to BWG, my son has an autographed picture of Brent hanging in his room. And thanks to Brent for taking the time to sign an autograph for a young guitar player who appreciates Brent's amazing talent.

blkhrs7,
Thanks for responding. I was on the 2:20 slot. I played in front of Andy Riess set and I was the guy that got up and played a few tunes with Andy. Brent and Doug came on after that. I saw you and your daughter out front and a little right of center stage. Earl

blkhrs7,
I don't know if you noticed but the guitar I was playing was an $80.00 Squire Strat. It is currently my favorite guitar to play. I put a drop D tuner and replaced the volume and tone pots, otherwise the rest is stock. Thanks for enjoying my set. Earl

That's a cool story...I dont know Brent personally...but I did meet him years ago at 3rd and Lindsley. When he and the rest of "the PLayers" first started playing there.

They took there first break and Brent came over and was standing right beside the table I was sitting at.
I was sooo nervous, but I knew that this was probobly the only chance I would ever get to talk to him. I forced myself to start talking to him and to my relief he stuck his hand out and shook mine.
I told him I was a huge fan and a guitar player too (proudly).
I told him I had his Hot Licks video and loved it, he asked me how long I had been playing, etc...
It was like talking to SUPERMAN...very humbling.

Brent was really nice to me and made that moment alot easier....
I would have regreted it FOREVER if I would'nt have said anything to him.
