September 1966 I checked into a hotel in Bangkok Thailand and went to the restaurant for my first meal in a foreign country. There on the menu was fresh roasted cashews. Wow were they delicious, all hot and oily and they were huge.

GB-You're recent threads have taken a definite scope of theme.
Get my drift?
I am very worried about you.
Just where in the state of Cal-lee-for-nya is San Benito County?

San Benito County is so amazing a certain group of people were willing to EAT each other to get here! (The Donner Party) San Benito County is so popular that it is the chosen spot for the first biker rally and they even made a film about it! (The Wild Ones)...

San Benito County is the home of the mighty San Benito river that, while it has not run in many years, my son and I frequently stand at its shores and dream of the white water rafting company we will open when it runs again.

San Benito County has some of the greatest cowboys, farmland and is part of the richest salad producing land in the world! Remember the huge spinach scare awhile back? Yep, started about 5 miles from the 'Bent ranch!

San Benito County is home of Casa De Fruta and the WORLD FAMOUS cup flipper.

And, San Benito County is home to the most beautiful sunsets, warm days and cool nights year around in the world. 30 miles to Monterey, 45 to San Jose and 90 to San Francisco.. it is perfectly located!

and last, San Benito County is the barometer for how the state of California votes on all issues. For the past 68 elections.. in every major race whichever way San Benito county voted.. the state followed....

That is where I am and where I will stay (well unless the attorney general gets his way... just funnin!)

The Devil announced long ago that he wouldn't even pass by.. so, Mt. Diablo is stuck in humble contra costa county.

We do possess the legendary metropolises of Paicines and Panoche... and the universally known and loved Pinnacles National Monument. Even Teddy Roosevelt swooned when he visited (okay, yeah, I made that part up.)

I live in NW Oregon, and area famous for its hazelnuts. Now...I have to confess that I just don't "get" hazelnuts. I don't think they taste all that great, though the chocolate industry likes to put them in chocolate treats. (Treats which I assiduously avoid.)

I see a lot of pistachio lovers here, and here's a tip for the (I would assume) many of us dealing with diabetes: pistachios have very little impact on blood sugar. Snack to your heart's content on pistachios, they'll have 1/3 the effect of peanuts, cashews, or almonds on your blood sugar levels.

I usually get raw almonds from Whole Foods, but have never heard of Marcona's. I now will have to give them a try. GB, do they usually come cooked, or raw?

Squirrels inhabit my pine trees at the mountain house, we always keep a huge container of Peanuts in the shell next to the front door for the varmits and the Blue Jays. Don't know who eats more the local wild neighbors or my daughter and I?

I was walking my dog in the park this morn, guy was picking something up off the ground. I asked him if he was gathering walnuts (to make his own stain. A Luthier I apprenticed with did this) and he mumbled something. I said "beg pardon," and as his big dog bared its teeth at me, he yelled back "CHESTNUTS, AND &@% #*@##$*, GO FIND YOUR OWN!" Must be serious business, this chestnut gathering stuff. I've had 'em and love 'em, but refuse to die for 'em.
