100 Years - Anybody Notice?

October 1, 1908 Ford Motor built the very first Model-T.

Look at that thing go. So why do we need Hummer's today to get to the store?

I've been thinking about this for the last few years -- Model-T's aren't really in-style, even among car guys, so wouldn't it be cool to drive a 100-year-old car?

'least I think so...

"Ford Motor Co. reported Wednesday that its U.S. sales declined by 34.6 percent in September from a year ago, as tight credit, economic uncertainty and financial market turmoil continue to keep buyers away."

Happy Birthday, FoMoCo

I understand Ford stock declined 12.5 percent and is now at $ 4.50 per share.

Ford sold my Dad a brand new but crummy 1957 model (the 1941 + 1950 were great) and refused to do right by him. I think every single transmission component was replaced within a 10 K interval. All warranty claims denied.

And so no-one in the whole family has bought a Ford since. We're talking about the purchase of 85-90 cars here. 51 years of reverse loyalty.

My Dad was a Ford man ever since his first car, a 1950 Tudor (2-door, they were so clever!) with a flathead V-8 and an overdrive transmission, until we had an absolute lemon of a 1969 Country Squire station wagon. He replaced that with a 1975 Chevrolet wagon that was absolutely wonderful.

But I guess he didn't hold a grudge for long, because the Chevy was eventually replaced by another series of Fords (his last car was a Lincoln, actually, fulfilling a longtime ambition!).

Shortly after he died, so did the Lincoln's transmission, and we've been Ford-less ever since!

Cheers, Tim

In some respects, the model T is a lot like the telecaster...both mass produced items that are considerd classics today!

My favourite Ford : 1971 GT HO Falcon.Unfortunately for me, they cost in excess of half a million these days.

The Falon rules! A great vehicle for touring in the old days. And then there are the other models. ....
