![]() Got it on vinyl when I was in 8th Grade; waaaaaay back in 1978. Not bad for starters, eh? Now that I'm typing this I have "You Love The Thunder" from that album in my head.

As far as I can remember, all my first records were singles or EP's. It was everything from The Deep River Boys to Paul Anka and of course Elvis, but the first album was probably "With The Beatles" (1963). I'm not absolutely sure though ... (It may have been some Norwegian children's fairytale record)

"Marty Robbins Greatest Hits" circa 1963 with Marty looking very much like Ozzie Nelson sitting, wearing a sport coat, shirt, and tie. I wore the grooves out on that one. Another from that era and one of my first was "Move" by Peter, Paul, and Mary.

First album: Blondie's Parallel Lines; I was 9. My aunt gave it to me. Shortly thereafter, I also received a 33 1/3 copy of the Sugar Hill Gang's "Rapper's Delight." I still know all the words!
First 45: Disco Duck by that LA Deejay guy. I was, what? 6 or 7? It had a guy doing the duck voice. It was the schoolyard rage. First album that I bought with my own money: Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, Texas Flood

Mine was Steppenwolf's "Monster". I bought it for a quarter at Kennedy's Bookstore just off EKU's campus back in 1972. I was 9 years old, and my great aunt had given me a little fold-up suitcase style record player for my birthday, and I needed an album to play on it.
Cool thing is, I found out I really liked Steppenwolf, and the music and lyrics on that album are every bit as pertinent today as they were then.... |

Beatles...Hard Days Night soundtrack.
I remember telling my mother that if my older sister wants to play this record that she had to ask me first as this record was MINE...ALL MINE! (diabolical laughter) Fret

If my memory serves me correctly, my first lp was Dressed to Kill by Kiss...My first 8 track was Doobie Brothers' Greatest Hits...My first cassette was REO Speedwagon Live. (I remember making my own cassette of BTO's greatest hits.) I don't remember what my first cd was - I tried to hold out on switching media again...what do you know, the music industry didn't care if I bought cd's or not

The first record of any kind I bought was a 45 by the Animals, "House of the Rising Sun." Summer of '64, and I was 9. I painted my neighbor's wrought-iron fence for the money. He'd been a fighter pilot in WW2 who had been wounded a couple of times and so had difficulty with bending & stooping for long periods of time. His wife made the best lemonade!
Little did I know then how that seductive arpeggiated guitar intro would lead me into the dark world of Gibson...

The first vinyl LP that I bought was The Beatles - Second Album.
That was followed shortly by a double set - the Doors - Absolutely Live. What a shock after the Beatles but I still love both of 'em. |

I think it was " Midnight In Moscow " by The Kenny Ball Jazzband in the early Sixties on a 45.
Please don't beat me up.

My first album was a birthday present in late 1958 and was Elvis Presley's King Creole. I still have it, but it's the cd version with the extra tracks that I play occasionally.

Bought with my own cash:
The Jackson 5 'ABC', vinyl LP.... back when it was a new release, of course ! i loved that record...motown session players always kick it, no matter who's fronting... before that, i still remember the day my older sister brought home a copy of 'Are You Experienced ?'. James Marshall Hendrix...REVELATION !!!!! never bought an 8-track tape because I never had an 8-track player. cassette tapes I always made dubs or mixes... sorry RIAA :) first CD I think was Dire Straits 'Brothers In Arms'... |
