Band Photo from 0 to 60

I got a call from local scene mag the other day. They were doing an interview with this 80's coverband and needed a photog to do a quick picture of the band down at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills. Long story short, band was late, interviewer was later which of course gives me a total of 90 (no joke) seconds to come up with a rockin photo...oh the joys of shooting bands (you know who you are :/ ). I must say...given the situation, it turned out pretty well.

Band is called the Spazmatics and they really did an awesome job. Prolly one of the best gimmick-style bands I've ever seen or heard.

Well its about time...finally took a photo of my geetar. Its just a Squire but I replaced the pups with a lil 59 (bridge) and a vintage stack (neck). It really hasn't got much playing time since I sold my amp and has been playing second fiddle to my acoustic. But I think that's gonna change soon, I think

Hmmm...never been to the Woodranch Grill. I do like a good cole slaw, so I'll keep it in mind. You from around these parts?

I used to live in LA. But one my best friend still lives in Agora (right across from the high school). About 5 minutes from Woodranch. I go there every time I'm in town.

It really is the best slaw I've ever had.

Great job! Photography is my day gig too and at one time, I was the "go-to-guy" for bands in this region. It was the best of time, it was the worst of times. Some of the most horrible and yet hilarious stories in my career came out of that era. Never a dull moment when bands are involved.

The guy second left looks like Ben Stiller to me.....
That's a really good photo though, it looks so pro. Is there any effects added after the photo was taken? I'm really in experienced with photography and can't tell what's real and what's fake.

Wonderful picture .
Captures each individual personality perfectly , and the effect on the pic is magical .
One of the most interesting pictures of a band i've ever seen . Congratulations on a great job !!

The only 'magic' I did the the photo was to remove a light stand that was behind the group and visible between the singers legs O_O . The real magic is in the lighting. I have a SB-80DX on a stand ( 4' away at shoulder level on set 1/4 power and wide angle, slave mode), and a SB-800 off camera left, hand held via TTL cord, bouncing off the wall. Very little photoshop work other than the stand removal, just your basic curves to take away the digital fog and a slight white vignette.
