Teens OR Scumbags
Rant On:
I've put up a couple of guitars on sleaze-bay lately, Both have had a Buy-It-Now price. Starting the bid off with $0.99 (to keep costs lower) invariably some thing will bid $0.99 or even a whooping $1.04 and kill the BIN. Just 'cause they are cute AND first it kills a serious bidder. I wish sleaze-bay would keep BIN's up till half (maybe) of the reserve or BIN price is reached before it goes away.... Rant Off |

Keeping the BIN
The BIN stays until the reserve is met. If you have an item you will sell for 600 (reserve) but would like 750 (BIN), you can either start with a high starting price (600) or have a reserve of 600. In either case the BIN with stay until someone bids 600.
You just can't have a no reserve low starting bid with a BIN. |

Raise your starting price too high for them to make those random bids. If it's high and they bid then they're obligated to pay for the item. If you go to the trouble of putting a BIN then you have to also set the starting price near it otherwise you defeat your purpose.
Not too high though. |

You can't have it both ways. You can either have a realistic starting price or low auction costs.
Anyhow, it's not teens or scumbags messing up your strategy. If you've got a buy it now of $750 and my bid is first, even if it's $700, your buy it now goes away and my bid shows up at .99 simply becuse that's where you set the lowest bid. So, essentially, it's your fault for setting your opening bid too low. |

The other thing I've done to GREATLY improve my lot is to pretty much STOP using Ebay for selling. I list my stuff here, and other forums and have had EXCELLENT results...no Ebay fees and no worries. I just don't need the hassle. Good luck! |

The fees aren't really that much for BIN etc. It's worth it to me to sell to all the potential buyers that look at Ebay when they want something. I've put ads here with no luck and then put them up on Ebay and sold the item.
