newborn fan: dan baird/ georgia satellite-sound

hi guys,
i was really into the georgia satellites and then they diappered from my radar somehow. i just bought the "dan baird and the homemade sin" and "best of georgia satellits" albums and my mind is blown again. that is the pure, real stuff. if you ever feel like listening to "hellzapoppin" you will know what i mean. prototype-telecaster-stringbending-rock and roll!

Let me help you back up on the bandwagon! Long time Sats/Baird fan here. They were probably the catylist for me to start playing guitar.

My recipe for the Dan Baird tone?

Cranked. But you have to plug in to the low gain input.

Great stuff! I understand that the Yayhoos, his band with Roscoe Ambel, is a really great, fun outfit too!

Cheers, Tim

Very cool band. That first album....I loved the interplay between the two very different guitar sounds, and I think they should have run a university course called "bar-band 101". They get a frequent run on my mp3 player, and "Keep your Hands to Yourself", "Battleship Chains" and "Six Years Gone" are part of the Hard Way setlist. And their take on "Every Picture Tells a Story" just plain RAWWWWKS!!!!

Just found this thread.

At the time, when hairspray and Spandex ruled, the Satellites were a breath of pure oxygen.

didn't he play a LP Junior through a Marshall? I saw him open for Keith Richards with that guy who quit Guns and Roses.. what's his name... Izzy Stradlin was his stage name..and the JuJu Hounds. He was a blues-rockin' son-of-a-gun, too!

I've been listening to a lot of his stuff lately too. Love Songs for the Hearing Impaired is a great album.

I love that song! Most musos here seem to regard it the same as Mustang Sally and Sweet Home Alabama but there's something just so raucous about it that I thoroughly enjoy listening to it and playing it at gigs. It's a guaranteed crowd pleaser as well - which is a bonus!

Rick Richards (Lead Guitarist) played the LP Jr.-Marshall combo. Rick went on to play with Izzy Stradlin and the JuJu Hounds, one of my all time favorite rawknroll bands (right up there with the Stones).

its just my humble opinion, but too me, the GS sound is the combo of Dan Baird and Rick Richards. Take one out, and it just falls flat for me.
