If I could have written any song...
If I could have written any song... I would have written "The Water is Wide" it is a very, very old song...
I think it embodies everything I love in a song... What song would you have written... Here is Karla Bonoff doing a version that James Taylor later adopted.

Oh boy...there are so many good ones...
I think if I could have written something like "Someday Soon" I would have been very happy... Ian & Sylvia & Judy Collins singing "Someday Soon" Here's Suzy Boggus's version

That's a tough one. There are a few songs, for different reasons..
In The Garden - It's a beautiful song. Crazy - I love the chord changes. Yesterday - It has held up as a heartwrenched tearjerker, and still has pop cred. Mustang Sally - EVERYONE would be covering MY tune!

The Ying Tong Song...
Seriously, if I could have written any song, I would have done. But I seem to be an interpreter, not a creator, and though I've made a couple of attempts it's safe to say that when it comes to songs I couldn't write a note to the milkman. So I leave the songwriting to those who are good at it and do what I'm good at, which is playing and singing their stuff as I hear it and/or think they'd like it to sound.

Yeah, The Macarena is fantastic
But seriously, Wichita Lineman could easily be my choice too - wonderful lyrics and beautiful chord progressions. A couple of others that I wouldn't mind writing: Oh Holy Night and My Little Valentine. |

There was an episode of the Muppet Show where, at the end of someone's number, Statler turns to Waldorf in their theatre box and complains, "You know, they're not writing the old songs any more."
Waldorf gives him a look and replies, "Nope. They're only writing new ones!"
