Congrats on the new purchase! Don't listen to any of the naysayers who try to tell you Jazzmasters and Jags "aren't brilliant." I disagree, along with thousands of others. I play Country with mine, and it sounds perfect.

I'd recommend swapping the pickups on any Japanese Jazzmaster, though. They're not true to the original design, and are more like Strat pickups. I use Curtis Novaks in my CIJ Jazzmaster, but a pair of AV '62s sounds great as well. I have 3 AVRI 62's, and they're all fantastic.

Also, Buzz Stops AREN'T necessary. Most people who tell you they are don't have much experience with JMs/Jags, and think every guitar should sound and feel like a Strat, Tele, or Les Paul.

Buzz Stops will take away several of the characteristics that make a Jazzmaster a Jazzmaster. The sympathetic vibrations behind the bridge and the plunky attack ARE the Jazzmaster sound. IMO the trem is the best design EVER! Set it up properly and it will suit you fine...

Hi, and thanks for the setup information. I think I will get the pickups from Curtis Novak, I am just waiting for his advice on which ones to try.

The JM certainly has it's own thing going on, but is no worse for it. I really like the way it plays, and I am convinced that a decent set of pups will turn this into a monster axe.

BTW, for those who are interested the Adusto.matic bridge on my Mascis has a string spacing a little narrow for the guitar. I will look into "fixing this in the future, but I have too amny other things to do B4 I get to this.
