Tell us about your band!

This being a guitar message board and all I figured that everyone here is bound to be involved in a band of some sort (solo performers are welcome too of course.)

Anyhoo this is mine:

From left to right:
Colin (drums/vocals), Kirk (vocals/bass), Jacob (vocals/guitar/harmonica), Chris (guitar/vocals/feedback/me), Andrew (keys/guitar/vocals)

We will occasionally have pedal steel thrown into the mix but our pedal steel guy just had a kid so he can't be around full time.

We're called Yardsale and as you can see we like western wear and silly telephones. When not manning the phones we like to play good ol fashioned rock n roll music in the Faces, Springsteen and Neil Young vein. Throw in a bit of Uncle Tupelo, The Band, Gram Parsons and Mike Nesmith and you have our basic sound.

Our myspace has music on it and can be found clicking here. Click it, you know you want to! and our website Click it. It's very professional like.

And now for photos that actually make us look cool:

All Telecasters all the time.

In conclusion we are just five simple boys from Louisville, KY who like rock n roll music. Now it's your turn to shamelessly plug yourself!

Keeping with the olde time theme.

The line up there has changed as we're back down to a trio and I'm going to fire the bass player and replace him and add a key board player. We play alternative/indie rock...and yes I know, no telecasters....I'm working on it.

oh man, you guys are young and cool... the only way to be cool when you are old is to be pleasantly corny... one thing for us is that we get really great reviews and lots of repeat business once we started only playing 'old country and swing' and wearing matching shirts.. go figure.. the package matters (heh heheh I said package)

Some young hipsters like you guys... I think you look great... (the matching thing could be a fun goof though)

We're just a bunch of goofy best friends playing music all over this great land, thanking the Lord that people aren't throwing beer bottles and ashtrays at us while we try to do it! ...that's about it. *blush*

We play in Louisville fairly regularly - hopefully we can meet up sometime! I know we'll be back at the Pheonix Hill for Beatersville again...but I think that's our next Louisville date. I hope we do get to catch up though, I'd love to see you guys!

I play with John Russell and the Tone Rangers. Country and Swing. Pedal steel, fiddle, bass and me on guitar. Drums PRN.

Here's our CD. I wrote and sing Hill Country Bride, and wrote Let's Stay Home Tonight. I also sing Miss Molly.

Soulfinger

(L to R)Tim Spencer - Vocals, Harmonica, Keyboards; James Higginbotham - Drums; Jamie Meade - Guitar; Danny Michel(Me); Robert Higginbotham - Bass, Vocals

Soulfinger is an R&B band with a heavy blues influence. We try to aim for the Memphis R&B sound(Stax and Hi records).

We are DEFINITELY a fan of Pabst Blue Ribbon and Telecasters...I'm tellin' you, we'd all be great friends ;o)

The last band our upright bass player and I were in was sponsored by Pabst and when that band broke up he and I about cried...for the sponsorship alone!

Being in a band is seriously the greatest thing in the world IMO...I've been consistently playing music since I was 13 and I just cannot imagine not doing this. Traveling with your best friends is an absolute blast (well...smelling their four day old socks isn't my favorite...) and getting to play music with your friends and act like an idiot...that's my favorite thing in the universe.

I think we're all lucky we get to do this. Sincerely. We should pay people to let us do this! *blush*

I'm thinking about starting an Bluesy/Bakersfieldy/Staxy band called "The Shameless Plugs" (or maybe the "The Sham-less Plugs"), but as of right now, I'm just scootin' the OC open-mic circuit.

Gratuitious pics:

My band is called Slavantas and we play Iron maiden style metal and we all have cool nicknames to go with it.

Slavantas on stage, from left to right: Yours truly, Caveman (drums), Beastings (leadvocals), Dark one (bass) and Metal Andy (guitar)

and now here's some action shots

Me and Beastings.

Dark one, evident in this picture is his Gretsch six string bass.

We talk the talk and as evident from this picture we walk the walk too.

Having played in a few bands over the years, I'm currently in 2 bands. One is a very serious band that have been locked away in rehearsals for months & are unleashed on the London public in about 6wks - an all originals americana / alt.country band called The Ely Plains.

The second band is with my old school mate called The Driver Brothers who play mainly country rock covers (from Dwight Yoakam to CCR via Willie Nelson & Bob Dylan) and play live locally. I have the same drummer for both. The DBs are out live a couple of times a month. Much more knock about! ha!

I'm the chunky one with the 52RI, Darren on the drums and No1 son Joe on bass.
We do a mix of 50% rock, 50% blues and 50% country.... and 100% mongrel!!!

Backwater

We first played in '84.

Then we took some time off.

Fired up again about 5 years ago.

That's me, Scott, Ed, Bruce, and Mickey.

Over the years, we have picked up substantial celebrity endorsements.

The "band" I am in has been nameless for about the last year...good thing we don't play out. And I put "band" in quotes because we don't really play songs, we just play on a riff until someone messes up. We were called Ammunition, but then there's at least a dozen bands with that name on myspace...Then I thought we should call ourslves Dead Bird House since there were a lot of dead birds at out practice shack for awhile....but luckily we didn't use that one as I have found out about a band named Birdhouse...So we are currently nameless...these are a bunch of guys younger than me who haven't done the band thing before...One time we started playing and the guitars are out of tune...I tell them,"You need to tune up with the tuner like I just did cause someone is out of tune." He replies,"Well I tuned my guitar last week, so its in tune." I try to explain to him there is no way I can be out of tune since I JUST TUNED UP WITH A TUNER, but they just were not believing me that my guitar that just got unplugged from a tuner should be more in tune than a guitar tuned last week, no matter how hard you screw the locking nut, or homie didn't want to admit be forgot to bring his little wrench for his Floyd Rose, so I end up tuning down or whatever it was...Another annoying thing is that no matter how loud the other guitarist turns his 150watt amp up, the drummer can never hear him cause the other guitarist uses no mids....Bass and treble 8, mids zero...things rattle and fart, and I don't see how anybody could think that sounds good...but thats what Dimebag did, and this guy is all about getting or doing anything associated with Dimebag .

ANYWAYS, after all this, on a good day, or moment I should say, we sound like the Allman Brothers if they grew up up listening to Black Sabbath...These guys were my friends before they were bandmates, and luckily I sort of know how much work it takes to be a professional musician, so I just have fun and don't take things seriously in any way with these guys when it comes to the "band".

Here's my band, the Dog Years, in 1969. I'm on the left with the 54' strat. We have just reformed and are working on a CD of our original songs from that era. Here's a rough, very, very rough pastiche of tracks for our song, "Otters." Our drummer will replace the GarageBand drummer heard here. And we will sing in tune, after we remember the rest of the words.

Gary, come on then! I'd absolutely love that - we'd force you to get up and strum on one of those gorgeous acoustics of yours!

Gary, you just embarrassed me and made my night all at the same time! Trust me, most of the time we're a bunch of goof balls and all look and act like this :

Goof balls hahahaha! Running around like ten-year-old kids and laughing like mischevious maniacs! ...thank you for always being so sweet. *blush*

Well, no pics as of yet, but I'm in a band for the first time since I was in college in the early '90's. We're called Pole Snatchers at the moment (the name itself is a long story). We're just having fun for now putting together a two hour or so set list, then we'll probably try to play some of the local watering holes. Mostly covers with a handful of originals.

I also goof around with my wife and another couple, acoustic, called the Acoustisuckers. We play mostly country tunes, with the occasional Tom Waits song thrown in just for spice.

We're Blind Rhino. We've been together for more than a decade. We've played huge blues festivals that I couldn't have dreamed we'd play. We were finalists in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis Tenn. in 2004. We created a benefit concert in 2001 and every Christmas we've managed to bring in thousands of dollars in cash, food and toys for families in our area.

We rock very hard!

Tom "Ironman" Hanna, Johnny Allnight (Me), "Mighty" Mo Dorsey, "Rocket" Roy Barnes.
